What Nintendo should do...

Nintendo isn't going anywhere any time soon.  But I agree with shenske.  I've had that same exact thought multiple times!

I also think it would be cool if they were to re-release carts as compilation carts.  Imagine an NES Cart with Legend of Zelda and Zelda II on one cart.  Or all 3 Super Mario Bros.  Or Limited edition, special box, blah blah, but I really think people would buy those up like crazy.

Ah well, to each their own I suppose.

The Wii was the best of its generation because it was designed to NOT compete against the competition.  It was so different from the PS3 and 360 that most people bought one in addition to either the PS3 or 360.  That was the first generation where it was extremely common for most people to have at least two of the current gen systems.  You could argue all day about whether the PS3 or 360 was the best.  But the Wii was so different you couldn’t compare it.  Basically, after the less than stellar Game Cube, Nintendo saved itself by reinventing the wheel.

With that said, once the PS3 and 360 added their Move and Kinect add-ons, the Wii lost a lot of its uniqueness.  This is even more apparent in the current gen systems as the Wii U just doesn’t stand out against the competition.  The current sales tell it all as the PS4 and Xbox One EACH sold more consoles in their first few months than the Wii U did in its first year.  As a huge Nintendo fan, this pains me to say it, but unfortunately that’s how I see it.

This!  I can't believe they haven't done this.  It seems like a no brainer.  There is already a huge software library for the DS and a growing one for the 3DS.  They have done this in the past with the GB Player on the SNES and the GBA player for the GameCube.  Hell, I'd buy a WiiU just for this functionality if they had it.

I agree with this as well.

It brings up another point I forgot to make.  Say what you will about Nintendo's direction in the console market, but they definately have the portable gaming market figured out. ;)

In some ways I can see what you're saying here, but the Move/Kinect argument, srsly?  The Move faded into irrelevance faster than you can say that sentence, and the Kinect barely did any better.

But like I say, I suppose I can see your take on things there.  I'd argue that 6th gen, PS2 just owned face (in part, possibly large part, because of the DVD player bit -- it was the cheapest DVD player you could get for a long time) rather than the Gamecube not doing great, but that's all kinda questionable anyway.
