I accidentally got a little off topic in the Atari landfill thread, so I thought I would start a new topic here. What are your favorite terrible games? In other words, of all the games that were traditionally rated poorly, which are your favorites? My example was 2Xtreme for the PS1. I used to pay the heck out of that game. I later remember reading a review for it in a PS1 magazine where they gave it a 1 out of 10. I only saw that magazine give out a couple of 1’s in all the years I read it. I don’t care, I still enjoyed it. It was the third PS1 game I ever owned and I think I paid something like $50 for it new...... :-\ |

repost: I love Twisted Metal series but I like all of the games. I remember a time around 1998 when I found a site called Twisted Metal Alliance (www.tmalliance.com). Most fans of TM absolutely despise TM3 and TM4. I like both of the games. 989 only had 6 months to make the games. I find it a bit odd to be so devoted to a company instead of a game. I agree that 989 versions are a bit cartoonish but I play TM4 (and Black) more than any other game of the series. Just don't mention TM 3 and 4 to hardcore TM fans - it'll get you banned ;D PS arguments are usually about cartoonish graphics, yet, the same people promote Head-On and Small Brawl - go figure :P EDIT: I forgot about Critical Depth. I still need to get a copy too. Thanks for mentioning it! Grin I like Black. Very good game. I just get tired of the gray and gloomy levels sometimes. TM2 is a masterpiece. Good stuff. I love the title: terrible games that are fun Grin PS I have played the old Singletrac game called WarHawk. I have an old friend that owns a lot of PS1 and Sega games. Anyway, he had TM in original box. We always played Madden together, so I traded my new Madden for his TM original box. He also let me borrow Warhawk. I scanned the box LOL but that was back in '98 and you know back then we all had Win98 with 800x600 resolution. Needles to say, my Warhawk scans are too small. Anyway, I find it interesting that Incognito (SingleTrac) used WarHawk in TM Black. can't wait to read other posts. I'm curious about more opinions. Good thread ;D |

SingleTrac used to love doing that. In TM2, there is a hidden level which was a track (Suicide Swamp) from Jet Moto (also made by SingleTrac). |

Most fun Atari games I'd say fall into this. It's hard for me to call a game terrible if it's fun, that normally makes it a good game. So maybe we should change it to more of "Games you think are under rated" or something like that. I like Haunted House on 2600. A lot of people think it's a bad game, but to me, it's one of the few 2600 games where you get to do stuff. Most other games, same screen, over and over, just shooting or catching the same stuff, over and over. No exploring, nothing. And as I said on the other thread, ET. 90% of people bash the game without even knowing the goal: Find the three phone pieces, find the spot to summon the ship, and find the landing spot in the forest. Many times you can beat a level by lowering yourself (NOT FALLING!) into 3 pits. You need to find the ?s spots, most of the time all 4 pit screens have them, and use it to locate the parts. At the very least, you have 2-3 that rule out what screens there are no pieces on. then you enter a pit, levitate soon as you enter, and lower yourself if there's a part, otherwise, exit the pit and try another one. Blue Print is another one I hear people bash, and they don't seem to understand it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EMEsWaFtM8 was one where the guy talked about the gun part. He didn't know you need to press up to raise the gun's power, so he was shooting at it with the slowest speed, the hardest way to do it, and for most points. Great thing was, his own video, at 9:30, shows a clip of the instruction manual that shows how to do that. A lot of Atari games are like that. People don't know the tricks to play them, and think they suck. Yet you have games like Yars Revenge, people know generally how to make the cannon show by eating or touching the base, but if you didn't, that would be a very frustrating game. |
