Yeah I was gonna say, I consider myself a guy who likes him some bad games, and ET is just BAD.  Definitely not the worst, no, but very bad.

I still think it's cause you all don't know how to play it.  How many other Atari games can you carry items that regen your health when you need it, or that you can warp from room to room ?
When I play, I never have the whole "fall back into the pit" issue people talk about, cause I know, exit the bottom.  I also never hit bottom of a pit, because you can catch yourself.  I know the goal of it, and can generally beat it in 5 mins. If you don't know what the icons on the top mean, then you're not playing the game correctly.  It was also one of a handful of games you could beat at the time.  Having a game end cause you finished it was awesome.

Now most people who call it bad say that because they have no idea what to do in it.  But compare it to say Riddle of the Spynx, where you have to use both joysticks to play.  Try figuring this game out on your own and beating it. Or star master, great game, but watch the Angry Video Game Nerd play it on his Mondays shows.  They play it completely wrong, cause they're using the joysticks, not knowing you need to flip switches on the console to get the radar screen to show up, to warp to the enemies.

And someone said Realsports.  Real sports baseball, every pitch looks exactly the same, so you have no idea if you can hit a pitch or not. Heck, the games so bad, the computer can't even throw to it's own first baseman. And the Soccer one, they forgot the goalie. Kinda need him.

As an original owner of ET for the 2600, I have to say I just don't care for it.  I've played worse games, but there is nothing enjoyable about it.  Even with a full comprehension of what you should do and even after watching play through videos on YouTube, I still don't care for it.  And this is coming from a big fan of 2600 games.

But to each their own.  Every game, no matter how bad, is going to have some fans.  I used to love 2Xtreme for the PS1, a game most would consider to be pretty crappy, even for its time.

That might be an interesting topic:  Which games do you guys love, that would be considered terrible by most of the gaming community?
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Everyone seems to hate Pit Fighters for the SNES and I do agree it is a terrible game. But it was my first snes game and I have a lot of fun with it back in the day. I didn't think it was a bad game back in the day until I played other fighting games. Terrible game but very nostalgic

I love Twisted Metal series but I like all of the games. I remember a time around 1998 when I found a site called Twisted Metal Alliance (www.tmalliance.com). Most fans of TM absolutely despise TM3 and TM4. I like both of the games. 989 only had 6 months to make the games. I find it a bit odd to be so devoted to a company instead of a game. I agree that 989 versions are a bit cartoonish but I play TM4 (and Black) more than any other game of the series. Just don't mention TM 3 and 4 to hardcore TM fans - it'll get you banned  ;D

PS arguments are usually about cartoonish graphics, yet, the same people promote Head-On and Small Brawl - go figure  :P

That's funny because I just picked up TM3, TM4 and Small Brawl about a week ago.  I already had TM1, TM2 and Black and I decided (spur of the moment) that I wanted a full TM collection.  I'm still missing a few, but I'm close now.  TM3 and TM4 aren't that bad, but they just don't have the feel of the originals.  For me, TM2 and Black are still the best.

Speaking of which, I've never played Critical Depth.  It was made by SingleTrac (same makers of TM1 and TM2).  It's the same type of game play but underwater.  I need to find it.

PS.  I think I got us a little off topic.  I should have started a new topic to discuss "terrible games that are fun."

Good pickups! I love these games. I forgot about Critical Depth. I still need to get a copy too. Thanks for mentioning it!  ;D
I like Black. Very good game. I just get tired of the gray and gloomy levels sometimes. TM2 is a masterpiece. Good stuff.

I love the title: terrible games that are fun  ;D

PS I have played the old Singletrac game called WarHawk. I have an old friend that owns a lot of PS1 and Sega games. Anyway, he had TM in original box. We always played Madden together, so I traded my new Madden for his TM original box. He also let me borrow Warhawk. I scanned the box LOL but that was back in '98 and you know back then we all had Win98 with 800x600 resolution. Needles to say, my Warhawk scans are too small. Anyway, I find it interesting that Incognito (SingleTrac) used WarHawk in TM Black.

Looks like they found them! I hope they better not be selling those e.t. cartridges for a premium price

So, I just got back from the dig site. It looks like the excavation is all over the internet already. So, I'm not sure I can tell you anything new. There were tons of games of all types, Atari consoles and the city of Alamogordo wouldn't let us take anything. Some of the game that were buried with E.T. were Pac-Man, Defender, Warlords, Centipede, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and more. Some of the games looked like they'd been in a landfill for 30 years and some look mint.

That's awesome. The dig made the local news here in St.Louis.

Did you bring anything home?

The City of Alamogordo wouldn't let us take anything. That part sucked.

yea I could see more than a little liability for them letting people take stuff from the trash, who knows what it was touching for 30ish years.  Besides, they're keeping the good shit for themselves.

To be honest, I was skeptical of the whole PR stunt. I was thinking that maybe Microsoft planted the evidence or something. But I didn't know we had an inside man. Thanks Segamer.
