I didn't know these existed:

Single Poly Jewel Case, 10.2mm thick. Assembled with black tray.

Finally, a new solution to avoid broken jewel cases!  Standard jewel case boxes are made from polystyrene, a fragile material. These Single Poly Jewel Cases have a clear Poly Box which is made from polypropylene, a material that is flexible, rugged, and much better able to resist the common cracking and breaking for which standard jewel cases are known. And, these come assembled with a standard black CD tray inside, so they have a similar look to a standard jewel case.

They seem to essentially be CD jewel cases, but made of the same material as CD Poly Cases. They appear to use the same trays as regular jewel cases, so you could have black or the clear trays.

Anyone tried these? They seem like a good alternative to replace cracked jewel cases, but I'm wondering how opaque the plastic is and if that will affect the visibility of the inserts.

Don't know if they are the same ones, but I've seen ones that look like that in real life, and they were a pretty cloudy plastic. Who knows though, maybe those are higher quality than the ones I've seen?

If they are indeed polypropylene (PP), then they CAN'T have 100% clarity like acrylic or polycarbonate cases do. Just the nature of the material :-\

Sort of a strange concept IMO. PP is really soft. It's hard to imagine that they would hold themselves together very well. The jewel case design was intended for a very rigid plastic ???

I hate the PS1 jewel cases--well, jewel cases in general--but the cloudy poly cases my library uses for their CDs seem to obscure the artwork too much. I was thinking of picking some up as a replacement for my jewel cases, but decided in the end to get DVD cases.

If anyone knows of any super clear poly cases I'd be interested.

I need replacement Jewel cases for a couple of games from PS1 and Dreamcast but they aren't single disk games, they are the cases that hold 4 disks for FF7,8 and 9 etc. Anyone have a good source to get a few of those?
