Anybody have a 3DO?

Yes, I have the USB mod done on mine.  It's tasty.   I need to get a like.. 128 gig USB stick so I can just have the whole library available at once, it's like 90something gigs...

Can you still play original disc games with that mod?  I like those types of mods as long as you can still play the original games.

Negative, sir.  Entire optical drive is removed.  Same with the GDEMU (the good sd-card replacement for the Dreamcast, which I also have).  I would also prefer to have it both ways and be able to use the original games too, but I understand how it's not entirely possible on old systems that don't have HDDs.  They tried with the old, serial port attaching SD reader for the DC, but that one kinda sucked (I have it too).  At least with the GDEMU it was a plug-and-play, so if I want to (and ever get rid of my 2nd one) I can just plug the GDROM back in.

But for now, I have a spare FZ-1 and a secondary Dreamcast to play original games if I want to.  I figure eventually I'll stop caring (though I'll keep my original games because I'm a crazy collector)

I knew that about the DC, but I didn't know about the 3DO because I hadn't researched it yet.  That disapoints me, but I guess it doesn't matter because I just can't seem to find a good deal on a 3DO in the first place.

Gah, I was away from collecting for too long, missed quite a few new toys.  Did not know this existed.

Heh yeah... he's a 1man operation so it's closed right now, but considering he's talking about "Version 5.2" he's clearly expecting to make more because I think he was a little surprised by how much demand there was.  There's also the DCIO in research from the same people who are making the PSIO, but considering people are starting to call PSIO vaporware I dunno if we'll ever see it.

I looked at the usb mod for the 3do but as I have a load of originals (bought before I knew about the lack of region protection) I want to keep my cd drive. I just have a cd wallet now with hundreds of burned cds in instead.

And I prefer to put a physical media in the drive anyway
