Looks interesting. Does SNES go vertically or horizontally?

I'd imagine PAL and JAP carts go Vertically (connector down) and US carts horizontally (connector to side).

This is correct.

Not exactly. Reason being is because first they are thicker carts than NES so spine will be slightly thicker (about 1/8") and those damn manuals are so freaking big the case will actually be a hair taller as well. Also because the manuals are so big, to accommodate a manual pocket + manual its slightly wider. The good news is this allowed us to do the crisscross layout, which works well for Super EverDrive and SD2SNES without making any special provisions for them like I did with the NES EverDrive.

The NES case base was a size they already had, I just had to get the mold made for where the cart goes. They did not have a base mold that would work for these manuals and carts (well they did, but it was a 9" tall case lol), so I had to get complete new mold set made, which I was hoping not to have to do because its much more expensive, but them are the breaks I guess. Its partly my fault, the NES cases are pretty large already I just kind of figured SNES manuals would fit. The good news is since everything is brand new I had the option of a more rigid spine which should get rid of that slight bend at the top and bottom of the spine on the NES cases.

All-in-all they should not be much bigger than the NES case and will most likely look fine on the shelf next to them. Really if it weren't for the manuals they would have been the same height and width, just slightly thicker spine. For those who don't care about manuals and want a slightly smaller case I will probably be getting the NES case mold modified slightly with our next batch so that North American SNES carts will fit in that as well. Just to give people some options.

Question for Stone Age Gamer,

I've recently purchased a few of your nes bit boxes and am loving them.  So I was stoked to see that your doing SNES versions as well.  I've started to expand my SNES collection and while waiting for the new cases to be released.  I have been putting them in empty nes bit boxes.

I have the Legend of Zelda, the manual, and the map that came with it and unfortuneatly all three can not fit inside the case and have it close all the way.  I was wondering if the new snes versions would be able to hold all of this or just manual and cart.

Thanks :)

Legend of Zelda for the NES or Link to the Past for SNES?

Probably about a month to 2 months max. Mold is getting made soon and then about 30 days for production. We may take a pre-order for them at a pretty good discount to hopefully to start garnering some interest.

Good to see you're moving forward with these. I just ordered a NES bitbox to check it out, but I already like what I've been seeing so far.  Assuming you eventually get a complete database of covers for games made I'll probably switch to these, I find printing to be such a pain lol.

We will be doing the same thing we did with the NES cases with all cases. We originally just created a script to up scale the existing UGC art from TCP to the BitBox size and then worked on getting some people to help us making art specifically for the cases.

However maybe this time we can get a few more people involved to speed it up. We basically had only one person who volunteered to help us make art specifically for the cases. We did compensate him with store credit, which we would be willing to do with others as well. Currently we have 676 different NES games with art in our database and 586 of those have art specifically made for NES BitBoxes. We should have another 100 art done specifically for NES BitBox very soon as well. We hope once we are done to get all those uploaded to TCP so the do-it-yourselfers will have access to this art.

That's great, I hope these are successful for you. I'm not a hardcore collector trying to get every game, but it's decent sized I think, and I'll be more motivated to expand if I know I have a place to store them neatly.

Yeah, as somebody still waiting for you guys to finish up the art on some of your NES games, I think it would be definitely be good for you guys to get that art done sooner rather than later. It might not mean that much for the folks who only order a few cases, but anybody planning on buying in bulk is probably going to want some good looking and consistent artwork.

I hate printing and you can't order the art separately, so the sooner they get custom bitbox art made the sooner I'm going to place an big order lol. If I'm spending the money on nice cases I want the art the match. I understand it takes time though, and I'm thankful there are people doing this at all. I have zero artistic talent so I'd be stuck otherwise.
