which is better, windows 7 or 8?

Dr.Agon:
thanks for all the input guys!

I'm not opposed to the Metro system, in fact, when I was first thinking about my 'Xbox pc' I stumbled on a mod to make Win XP look like Win 8/Metro, was gonna do that cos I thought it looked pretty cool, its just that I think Win 8 was designed primarily for touch screen devices, (laptops, tablets, smart phones) and not for 'normal' desktops/towers. if your running it on a 'normal'/ non touch device what are your thoughts?, could I really go from XP to 8 without much difficulty?

please note; this will be going onto my existing pc, can't afford to upgrade right now...

Blumpkin:
I never upgrade my OS. When it gets that outdated it's just time to buy a new PC.
Dr.Agon:
true, but i cant afford that right now
£300-£500
or
£50-£80
i know which id do...

The desktop mode is exactly the same as windows 7/xp, so normal controls are perfectly fine. A lot of metro apps are clumsy but manageable without a touchscreen, but a lot of people never use them anyway. Then there are some quirks like pointing to your screen corners to do a few things and dragging the top of the screen down to close apps, but I never thought they were hard to remember. By the way, I went from using xp to windows 8 just fine.

The most important thing though is to do your research and see if your hardware is compatible with either OS.
Dr.Agon:
thanks for that Jeff!

i did just think i could use the windows compatability/hardware checker thing, surely thats all the 'research' id have to do?
