after seeing that in some games with the "Gratest hits" tittle on Playstation 2 there is some differences between the original ones (in some games), don't know if this hapens in Nintendo and Xbox or other consoles. So, if you guys can help on making a list of those games that change (game play, new Worlds, music, Etc) from the original to the Greatest Hits - Platinum Hits - Players choice, that way we can know if it's worth to buy both (original and gratest hits) or if only with the original is just fine.

Remember, only games that have changes from original to Greatest hits - Platinum Hits - Players choice (game play, new Worlds, music, Etc) (PS1, Ps2, PS3, PSP, PsVita, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nes, Snes, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Gameboy Color/Advance, DS, 3DS, and other consoles)

- N64

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Players Choice
- Many glitches were fixed along with some on-screen text issues and a very minor graphical change was made
- Ganondorf's and Ganon's blood have been changed from red to green
- The Fire Temple theme song has been replaced with a remix of the Shadow Temple's theme
- Various text-box spelling and punctuation errors have been corrected
- A useful 100% speedrun glitch where you can get the eyeball frog from King Zora without trading anything to him has been fixed.
- You can no longer skip the Bongo-Bongo cutscene by dropping a bomb down before the fight

- Playstation

Spyro: Years of the Dragon - Spyro: Years of the Drago Greatest Hits
- In the original version, the cutscene "Spike is Born" goes unused. (It can still be accessed via the cutscene cheat once the game is completed along with the others) This was fixed in the Greatest Hits version where it plays directly before the Spike's Arena boss fight.
- A serious bug present in the speedways was removed in the Greatest Hits version. If one were to quit the level before obtaining the level's egg then that egg would become completely unobtainable.
- The music for Lost Fleet was changed from the music used for "Super Bonus Round" to a remix of Sheila's theme.
- The music for Evening Lake was changed to its intended track. In the original, it erroneously plays the theme of Sunrise Spring.
- The music for the skateboarding levels was changed to its own unique track.
- All of the speedways except the Harbor Speedway use different music tracks in the Greatest Hits version.
- In the original release, the Sorceress's boss theme goes unused, since it erroneously plays the Sunrise Spring track. This was fixed in the Greatest Hits. (similar case like Evening Lake)
Dino Mines plays Molten Crater's theme in the original version.
Enchanted Towers' two subgame areas for Spyro (The Lost Wolf and the Stunt Skateboarding areas.) play the music track for Desert Ruins instead. In the Greatest Hits version, they use a different theme not heard anywhere else in the game. The main area of Enchanted Towers however still plays Sgt. Byrd's theme however, probably because Sgt. Byrd can be used in the main part of the level.
Haunted Tomb plays Cloud Spires in the original version rather than its own unique theme that it gets in the Greatest Hits version.
Crystal Islands plays Seashell Shore's theme in the original version but gets its own theme in the Greatest Hits version.

None of these changes are present in the 'Platinum' release, the European equivalent of Greatest Hits, except for the 'Spike is Born' cutscene being present and the speedway bug being fixed. Unusually, the Sorceress' boss theme in the Platinum release still isn't her original theme, but is in fact Spike's Arena.

- Playstation 2

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition - Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
The game features all of the cities, vehicles, and music from Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. This version of the game also allows the player to import the Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition data on their memory card to Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix to make up for lost progress, thus saving the player from starting all over again. The following features were added in Remix:

24 new vehicles (including some from brands not in the original version, such as GMC, Infiniti, Pagani, and Scion)
Tokyo, as a new city, which is a slightly updated version of the Tokyo city from Midnight Club II
    More licensed music
    More races and battle maps
Players are able to make their own races in all cities, including Tokyo

Silent Hill 2 - Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits
They have the Maria "Born from a Wish" scenario and the extra UFO, Dog endings.
Updated lighting and textures as well like the XBOX version.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening - Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening greatest hits
It included a number of gameplay changes and additional content. Most notably, players could now choose to play as Dante's twin brother, Vergil. Other changes included an added survival mode called "Bloody Palace" with a total of 9999 levels; a new Jester fight early in the game, with optional fights later; a "Turbo Mode" for 20 percent faster gameplay; and a continue system which can revive the character instantly, or allow the player to restart the fight they just lost as many times as they like. The game also has rebalanced difficulty. Vergil was made to contrast Dante's gameplay; While Dante was weaker than Vergil, he was still easier to control with Vergil requiring more skills to handle. Due to space limitations not all of Vergil's moves were added to the game.

The new boss is Jester, a character who is encountered several times during cutscenes in the first edition of the game but is never actually fought. In Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, he is a semi-optional boss (insofar as the first fight with him is mandatory but the later encounters can be skipped) who can be fought three times.

Virtua Fighter 4 - Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
Evolution was an updated version of Virtua Fighter 4. The game introduced two new characters and adjusted every other character as well. The two new characters were the Judoka-assassin Goh Hinogami and the Muay Thai boxer Brad Burns. With the addition of Brad Burns, Vanessa Lewis's alternate Muay Thai style from Virtua Fighter 4 was removed and replaced with a Vale Tudo "Offensive" style; making her a solely Vale Tudo brawler.

All of the stages were adjusted. For example, Lei-Fei's stage in Virtua Fighter 4 previously took place during sunset, in Evolution it takes place during the morning.

Features

    Improved graphics: better anti-aliasing.
New item store in Quest Mode.
    Currency system in Quest Mode.
Opponent tracking log in Quest Mode: kept track of which opponents were fought in Quest Mode.
    Increased number of character items.
    Improved ranking system.
Special gameplay modes (i.e. Hyper Fighter, See-Saw, Wrestler's, etc.).
Emblem collecting: placed special incentive to defeat certain opponents or to avoid being defeated by certain opponents.
    New ring type; Semi-open/semi-walled.
In Quest Mode, one of the tournaments is called the Sonic Cup. Its logo shows Sonic surrounded by rings.

In the US, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution for PlayStation 2 also included as a bonus Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 - Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 Greatest Hits

- Playstation 3

Midnight Club: Los Angeles - Midnight Club: Los Angeles - Complete Edition
The Complete Edition of Midnight Club: Los Angeles further expands the driving experience with the South Central DLC pack, including the South Central District which expands the original map by 1/3rd and adds off-road areas, stunt jumps and the South Central rail yards.

- XBox

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition - Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
The game features all of the cities, vehicles, and music from Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. This version of the game also allows the player to import the Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition data on their memory card to Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix to make up for lost progress, thus saving the player from starting all over again. The following features were added in Remix:

Tokyo, as a new city, which is a slightly updated version of the Tokyo city from Midnight Club II
    More licensed music
    More races and battle maps
Players are able to make their own races in all cities, including Tokyo

- Sega Dreamcast

Mortal Kombat Gold - Mortal Kombat "Gold" Hot! New!
A second revision of the game, known as version 2.0, was released about a month after the initial release intending to address some of the major issues in it. This version fixed the most severe bugs and glitches in the game and added VMU support, which allowed the save feature to function properly. The revision was released on a disc tinted red, as opposed to the original's gold tint, with a green sticker saying "Hot! New!" placed on the instruction manual cover

i will keep editing here the games you post

Thanks

You should have what is different/ changed in the alternate versions, such as Silent Hill 2 you have listed there adds the Xbox version stuff (which I forget what it is at the moment).

What about stuff like director's cuts or Metal Gear Solid- Integral/ Substance/ Subsistance etc. They aren't Greatest Hits, but they are alternate versions with added content.

Another one is Resident Evil 1 and 2 on PS1. I believe the Greatest Hits versions added Dual Shock capabilities.

I think there was some F1 racing game on PS1 with Greatest Hits changes too.

Everything counts, I will add does games to the list too.

And will add the changes made in each game, this is to know which version of the game is better to pick up, I don't like greatest hits - Platinum Hits - Players choice covers but if the changes on them are worth to get them then I will buy them

Any chance to know if God of War had any changes?

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time had the music in the Fire Temple changed when they discovered it was actually an Islamic chant and kiiiinda blasphemous to be using it in a video game  :D

However, I'm reasonably certain it wasn't changed as part of a GH/etc version, just quietly changed and continued to be printed with the same label, so I don't know if that's in the scope of this thread.  Just the first thing that popped into my head.

Check out Gametrailers.com about that its pretty interesting to know why they made the change, and if the rumors of its reason are true. I wont spoil it for you.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time won't be added to the list because they didn't change the music in the players choice, so, there's no way to identify wich one is the one with the chages

Actually from what I was reading, all players choice copies of Ocarina of Time contain V1.2 which is the version they made the Fire Temple music changes to.

  • Think off-center.
I love this thread already  ;D. I wish I had more details to share but I know that the Dreamcast has a few of these games released/re-released.
Mortal Kombat gold i know has a super buggy gold disc with no save feature and 2 months later had a red disc released fixing most of the bugs (still buggy) and added save feature. NFL Blitz is another. Sonic Adventures had like 4-5 iirc revisions as well (I have 3 of em  ::)) from regular disc to SEGA ALL STARS releases their "greatest hits". I cant remember the others off the top of my head. :(
