Wow, really opened a can of worms on the saga style cases.

But I've got to agree that they need to almost exact replicas of the standard Genisis cart. The EA style square carts won't be cased as often and it's very cost innefficiant to make 2 different style cases.

I know many of is are tired of misting cases but all in all this effort is to REDUCE that process, not exactly eliminate it.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

guys, don't make sega cases unless they hold EA and Accolade style carts!  think of the games we'd be missing out on with a consistent case!  Road Rash?!

imo, sega cases and carts are horrifically, notoriously inconsistent and it would be AWESOME to have a single, unifying case solution that will accommodate just about every major cart style available (standard, EA, and Accolade Genesis styles, 32X, and possibly Master System?!) and then doing modifications or using other solutions for the outlying carts (like Sonic & Knuckles, Virtua Racing, Pete Sampras Tennis).  if it's gonna be done it should be done right!  it's possible!  think about how great the Game Boy cases turned out!  it can be done!! :)

, how many of you guys out there want to case up a loose copy of NBA 94

Me for one.  Not because I care about the game, but because if I have a game, I will case it.  I have several EA Genesis games that I acquired as part of large game lots I've purchased over the years.  As a collector, if I get a game, I will keep it and case it even if I don't care about it.  It's also important to me that game cases from the same system are the same size (with spine thickness as the only exception). Currently, my EA Genesis games are in UGCs with the rest of my Genesis games.  Therefore, if EA Genesis games do not fit into the new Sega cases, I won’t buy them because my EA Genesis games will still be in UGCs which will not be the same size as the new Sega cases.

If I'm the ONLY person who thinks the cases should hold all types of Sega games including EA games, then by all means go with the majority opinion.  I just hope that people understand that if EA games are left out of the Sega cases, then they will probably never be made.  I can guarantee you that a case specifically for an EA Genesis game will never be profitable and therefore never be made.  Can we all live with that?  Probably.  But it should at least be considered.

SOOOoooooo......

Order of case moulds?
1.) GB/GBC/GBA
2.) Sega Genisis
3.) UGC (Existing cart(s) set up)
4.) UGC NES
5.) Sega Game Gear
?? Sounds about right ??

As for the conformity of Sega games and their cases, what if I created high quality clones of the Sega Genisis clamshell  cases and after that I would re-create the right half of the mould to accommodate the other Sega games like EA, Sonic/Knuckles, Accolade, and 32x) SO their exterior appearance would all be conforming

Thoughts?

My suggestion would probably be the best route, if EA and 32X games were to be included without compromising the original case style. Which would be the whole point of making these in the first place. I cant see anyone going crazy over these because they'll include an EA cart slot. EA games are probably going to be a very small percentage of everyone's Genesis collection, and not exactly the most desired either. What should be the focus in making these cases, is that they are an accurate and quality replacement case to the originals. That's where all the demand is going to be. Everything else should be considered as a possible option if it doesn't compromise anything...

I'd agree.  Plus it's easy enough to find replacement cases for those with all the sports titles nobody wants. As for 32X it would just mean moving the cart tabs out a little. Everything else is the same. Another thing to consider is a case for Sonic & Knuckles. That's slightly more diffcult though. Regardless, the priority should be the normal size Genesis cases. Just let me know if you need any Genesis cases and I can send them your way Shadowfox.
Polygon, PM me :) I'll give you my mailing address. I would love an authentic SEGA case (My local "retro" game store is in the process of moving locations and is currently closed for a few weeks.  :'( )

Please make sure the case has that tabby thing and that the case is NOT EA ;) Once I get it I'm going to check it out and get the process of getting it created. (HOPEFULLY it will not take 6 months to make, I told my mould people about "cloning" an existing case and they think it should only be a matter of a few weeks!) Wouldn't that be awesome!

I too am in favor of a Genesis case. It would be great if you can make one that fits 32X as well. There's definitely a market for them out there.

It is worth noting that there are a few 32X games made by Akklaim that came in clamshells rather than cardboard, which are designed to fit 32X games specifically. They came with the two WWF wrestling games, NBA Jam and NFL Quarterback Club I believe. I've also heard 32x games fit in Master System cases, but I don't have one so I can't confirm that.

Does Sonic & Knuckles fit in a regular-thickness genesis case? I searched some topics and saw some people say it was, but they never posted pics. I've just been using one of the thicker EA sports cases modified to fit it.

I so would like UGC replacement cases (NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, N64 and Jaguar. Either all in one or separate) before Sega Clamshell.¨
But your decicion.

I can pledge 2500-3000 UGC replacement cases, various types (not all at once but but in sets of 200- 250 per month depending on price).
Sega clamshells I only need 50-100.

I think I've got one case with the hang tab. I'm one of those people that cut them off. I'll send you a PM.

Works for me!

One detail we never touched on was the insert sleeve plastic. I'd like to see that keep a textured look just like the originals if possible. Having a shiny and smooth plastic like say DS cases, would probably make the replacement stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to the originals. Kinda like how you can tell the difference between an older UGC and a Recent one because they changed the plastic they use for inserts later on.

Good point.

Yeah definitely same type plastic as original cases.

For future UGC cases too, please.
The foggy plastic looks better than shiny.

There has to be way to create an all-in-one Sega Clamshell size case that can hold ALL or at least 90% of ALL Genesis/ Mega Drive games: regular (US/ JPN/ PAL)/ EA/ Sonic & Knuckles/ Virtua Racing/ Game Genie and even 32X and Master System all in the SAME case. There HAS to be a way. Doesn't UGC allow that all in the same case?
