I would be in for at least 200 sega clamshells immediately - ugc's not so much - unless they were something extremely special.

As where UGC's have been around for some time now and I'm sure many people are already waist deep in the originals at this point.

Not a problem if the new cases are near identical in size as the old ones can be used for NES games with normal size manuals.

Agreed with Chad, Sega Clamshells will get you enough capital for your next two case molds I reckon.

3rd or 4th or 5th or whatever. I like the new UGC idea, but I really think that Genny clamshells would be perfect at this point. Hell, I've been talking to someone about making them as well. Like others have said, it seems odd that nobody else has jumped on them yet. Really, REALLY simple product and wouldn't cost an arm & leg to get started.

Im with everyone on this genesis clam shell idea. I am actually more in need of them than NES cases simply because my entire NES collection is already housed via UGC and I have a ton of loose genesis carts I need to shelve. I would probably be down to buy 100 of them

I'd be in for 100 cases myself just to start. These things will practically sell themselves once their available.

If you need a donor Genesis clamshell I'd be happy to send you a couple for the different sizes. I'd also buy some as well. Also, some Genesis clamshells that fit 32X games would be cool!

if is going to be the genesis clamshell first then i think it should accomodate all sega cartridges like an UGC but with the same exterior as the genesis clamshell, so it would be one case for all types

but as i don have any sega games i prefer first the nes, snes, n64 cases :P ;D

I like how the original Genesis clamshells hold the cart securely. That would work for different cart sizes. But it's always an idea. I wonder what everyone else thinks.

While I still feel that NES should be the top priority, I can understand why people would want Sega cases as well.  If you go with the Sega case, I have one suggestion.  The only way you will make good money with Sega cases, is if one case can hold all types of Sega games.  I’m thinking of four case sizes (Master System, Genesis, EA Genesis and 32x).  Something similar to your Game Boy cases which hold all three types.  You will have a hard time getting your money back if you have a separate mold and case for each type of Sega game.  You can call them universal Genesis cases, or UGC for short…….. oh crap.  How about universal Sega cases?

That leaves one more question.  Are there any Sega games that don’t fit into the 4 sizes I mentioned earlier?  I’m thinking about games like Combat Cars or “J-Cart” games.  They are a little bigger, but I don’t remember if their dimensions are different then EA Genesis games.  Maybe someone else can weigh in.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

While the Genesis cases do have varying spine widths, it may not exactly be practical to produce variants for them. EA cases are notorious for inconsistency with spine widths, and I cant really see there being a huge demand for EA cases in comparison to the originals anyway. There's certainly no shortage of dirt cheap cased EA sports games no matter where you go, if you did need one.

But the best bet would probably to keep everything just like the original Sega cases and incorporate a square slot for EA games like one of these guys right here:

Same dimensions as the original cases in every way, and can still accommodate an EA cart. And all that would need to be done to accommodate 32X games, would be to leave out the plastic in these areas since 32X games are slightly wider and wont fit within the original Genesis cart clips:

Problem solved! :)

^^^ This.

I completely agree with BadChad. If the design allows it to have EA carts fit then go for it but there are clamshells for EA Sports games everywhere. There is definitely a demand for Genesis clamshells. I have personally purchased over 30 old sports games just for their cases over the last few years.

I don't like EA crap. EA cases are slightly bigger then Sega Brand cases. The cartridge area being adjusted for 32X is fine as it is only a tad bit bigger. For myself, I wouldn't want anything beyond that; authentic uncompromised cases. If the cases were compromised for the mountains of EA shit, I'd personally pass on them.

I don't think it's a compromise to include EA games as long as all sizes fit security, which I believe is still possible.

My concern is that if you don't include EA or other Sega game sizes, you will have a hard time doing it later because It will be really expensive developing separate cases. Unless you plan to skip them all together.

My suggestion would probably be the best route, if EA and 32X games were to be included without compromising the original case style. Which would be the whole point of making these in the first place. I cant see anyone going crazy over these because they'll include an EA cart slot. EA games are probably going to be a very small percentage of everyone's Genesis collection, and not exactly the most desired either. What should be the focus in making these cases, is that they are an accurate and quality replacement case to the originals. That's where all the demand is going to be. Everything else should be considered as a possible option if it doesn't compromise anything...

If there 'were' to be a universal sega case - no reason not to combine it with Game Gear - A game gear cart is (very nearly) as wide as a genesis cart is tall.
