Probably because we should move one step at a time! Looks like replacement Sega Genesis cases may finally be produced. Something like Sega CD/Saturn cases could be a good next step. The Sega community/collectors have been completely deprived for a source of both Genesis and CD/Saturn replacement cases, and it is about time someone took care of it. Plus once we see just how well these Genesis cases will do, maybe it will open up everyone's eyes to the potential these things could have.

And much like my opinion of the Genesis replacement cases, they should be copies of the originals. Again, with these having so much more potential to gain serious popularity outside of the cover project, these Sega cases should be altered as little as possible to appeal to everyone, and not just us here at TCP. UGC's and other custom cases, customize away! Sega cases should be left as they are, to start off at least...
Well yes, one step at a time.  But somewhere in the thread he had a list in generic order of priority and there was an "Anything else?" on the list, so it just really surprised me that no one had mentioned it.  Honestly, I would put it as more important than Genesis replacements -- you can buy cheap sports games with good cases for either of them, but the longboxes are waaaay more brittle/fragile than the Genesis cases.  But either way, I'm gonna be buying a stack :D

But yes, I 100% agree that they should be copies of the originals, not modified in any way (besides if possible less brittle plastic), and that will increase demand for them.

... I also agree with everyone else saying it'll probably be among the most expensive to make :(

i can think of at least 5 forums that would eat up Sega CD/Saturn cases.

but, really, i hope the sega cartridge cases you're thinking about making have some way to fit all the weird types, like 32X/EA/Accolade/Codemasters/Sonic & Knuckles/Virtua Racing/Pete Sampras Tennis/Game Genie

Small update.

I just approved the factory to start working on the SEGA Clamshell mould.  ;)

I think I should have some drawings and sizes  (to approve) in the next 1-2 weeks. I'll share these with ya'll.

I should also be able to get an idea about pricing, which will be the "make it or break it" I'm hoping it's not too too much more than the GB cases.

Once approval is completed (and by then the GB cases will be shipping out) I should be able to get my first proof batch of cases (3-4-ish weeks from now) I'll need 2-3 SEGA freaks to really inspect them and make sure they are what we are looking for.  ;)  ;) (Which I think HOPEFULLY will be the "case" (pun intended) ) Then, as long as these GB cases are selling and I'm re-cooping my money, I'll be able to fire off the funds for the SEGA Clamshells....

So in a prefect world the SEGA Clamshells will be here in 45 days-ish. ...then I will be full steam ahead on those UGCs  ;)

Shadowfox, you bring me great joy in the middle of my 12 hour shift today :D

^Glad I could help!  ;D

The sample case was sent to the factory this morning. (Thanks Polygon!) According to the e-mail they sent me this morning they don't see any road blocks or issues with it!  :D

So this first SEGA clamshell will be the replica of the original clamshell case. (My "plans" are once these are completed I'm going to the UGC style cases, THEN! bounce back and create a SEGA universal clamshell. (For all those odd size games like the EA carts, 32x, and sonic/knuckles)

Basically, once the factory gets a handle on the clamshells, I'll start working with them on the UGC cases.  :)

I'd definitely be interested in looking over a couple of those cases for you. I was certainly able to get this thread amped up about them! ;)

I have been slowly replacing by beat up Genesis, as well as casing up my loose Genesis carts, with original cases I've tracked down over time. And I can get a little picky over them sometimes so I certainly know what I'm looking for. Also have various carts to test it with!

EDIT: Love that your going to be doing both original Genesis replicas and modified ones for various cart sizes. I personally am more interested in the originals so it will be nice to get exact replacements.

I'd be down to do this as well.

Considering my experience with the quality of his GB/C/A cases today, count me in for Sega clamshells, and eventually universal Sega clamshells!  8)

Small Update:

So the factory never received my first sample I sent to them like 3 weeks ago so Friday I shipped them out another sample.  :)

I told my girl over there that while we are waiting for the Genesis shell to arrive we will start working on the next case. I personally would like to move on the NES cases (Just due to the fact I hate cutting out the tabs from UGC over and over for clients, I had this one guy from Canada who ordered 500 cases from me and 350 of them were NES!  :-[ needless to say it took a while to do.)  So! Does the spine have to be larger to accommodate said NES/ Famicom cart with proper Manual? Also, I've had a few people ask me if the game carts "clip/click" into place (like the GB carts do) Is this something you would like to see on these new cases?
