ColecoVision Covers

I didn't mean to come across in a negative manner in any way. I do appreciate your input. However, any person who tries to make US ColecoVision covers is going to run into the same problem I did - quality of source material.

And, I made these covers solely for me. As I don't have any CBS CV games, I don't want to give them CBS covers. I wanted US covers, so I made some for me. I thought I'd share to save everyone else the trouble. This is by no means anything other than a hobby. I did the same thing with a bunch of Japanese Saturn covers. And, like these, they're not perfect but better than what's available that I can find.

I certainly don't think those cases are perfect, but they're definitely better than anything available for those in the same boat I'm in. I think the Smurfs one came out particularly good; especially in light of the original scan which had discolored Smurfs and creases. I was able to clean that all up and design a pretty damn good cover.

The others are average to above average. But, it's a circular proposition - it all must start and end with source material.

Take care,

J

I understand. I know some folks get disheartened because they put time and effort into submissions and they don't make it on the site.

I think the logos for the games are simple enough to redraw, same with the color bursts. Text should be an easy reset.

If I wasn't knee-deep in covers at the moment, I'd enjoy making them...
IronManDS:
Yeah, I need to learn how to do that. I have Paint Shop Pro, but haven't mastered the layers aspect yet. I figure that using layers, the bursts would be easy to make and then superimpose over the existing one. But, again, I haven't taught myself enough of it. Any pointers on that front would be appreciated.

I think the text is a no-brainer. I don't like the font you suggested, though. It doesn't seem to be a great match. I like the way that "Humanst521 BT" blends with the original text better.

Very nice.  I'm just working on boxing my CV games now.  Only have about 23-24 of them, but man I hate modifying UGCs, even just 2 little snips.

Only change I'd make for my personal tastes is to make the "Colecovision" be on the top of the spine.  Unifies them a little bit more like most of the other cases up here -- especially the Nintendo stuff, which I'll be honest is the lion's share of my collection.  I know gru3som3rick made a few like that.  But like I say, that's a personal taste and very easy to modify in myself.  Thanks for showing the CV some love!

Thanks, man. I will always have a special place in my heart for the CV. I remember getting mine for Christmas when I was, like, 11. I wish I had a penny for every hour I burned on that sucker!

I like your idea with the unification of the spine. But, I'm really a purist when it comes to keeping things original. I would like to see it in action so I could make an intelligent decision on how it looks, however. I'm thinking of something akin to how the PS1 and PS2 and NES covers all have their respective system up top on the spine. I'm wondering if a rainbow colored CV logo would look good there.  Hmmmmmm.......

You make one and send it my way and I'll make one and send it yours :)
