I like five just cause it plays on my statmonger play style.  red mages with 2x spells and quick for 5 spells per turn is great, and I normally have 3 of them.  4th one is a fighter, using Sshot, two swords, sword spells, and for added bonus, I make them a mime not bare.  Reason being if one of the mages goes before them, I "waste" a turn using quick as my 5th spell, then mimic the quick spell, giving me 16 attacks a turn for the fighter mime (vs 8) at the cost of one spell.

I probably spent more time playing the Medal of Honor games than any other.  But you can't go wrong with any of the following:

•   Medal of Honor: Frontline
•   Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
•   Call of Duty: Finest Hour
•   Tomb Raider Legend
•   Tomb Raider Anniversary
•   Metal Gear Solid 2
•   Metal Gear Solid 3
•   James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
•   007: Nightfire
•   Grand Turismo 4
•   Metal Slug Anthology
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

You are going to get a lot of different answers on this.  I would say it depends on the type of RPG that you like.  If you like the newer, voice driven ones that feel more like you pushing buttons and following the story than customizing classes, etc.  Then I would go with 7, 10 or 12.
If you like old school early 90s, classic JRPGs with deciding on whether to use mages, warriors, etc. I would suggest 1, 4 or 6.

If just wanting something to play, I would go 6 or 7.  they are typically regarded as the best.  If you play both and prefer 6, go backwards.  If you don't like 6, or just love 7, go forward.

Personal ranking: (fav to least fav)
7, 6, 4, 10, 1, 8, 12, 2, 5, 13, 11 (MMO), 9, 3, 14 (MMO)

6, 7, 8, 12, 9

The others I either haven't played or I couldn't recommend.

I will say Final Fantasy 10, 13, and both of their spin offs are definitely my least favorite.

7 has the longest storyline with: 7 (PS1), Advent Children (movie), Crisis Core (PSP definitely my fav because I like Zack), Before Crises (japan only cell phone game), and Dirge of Cerberus (PS2)
Also Cloud Strife makes an appearance in Final Fantasy Tactics with a very short storyline (PS1,Psp)

But as stated, I would try 6 and 7 first.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

I'd also recommend checking out 8, that had a different feel to it comparatively. I really loved it while others didn't as much.

8 has always felt a little different to me, and I think I may have a hunch why...

Most Final Fantasy games have a love story side plot.  Especially from 4 on (except 12, anyway).  Whatever the main focus of the game is (usually to defeat some big evil), there is always a love story to drive the slower parts of the plot.

With 8, I feel like the love story IS the main story, and the Sorceress plot is secondary to the love story.  It gives it a different feel to it.  Everything done is to further the relationship between Squall and Rinoa.

But hey, that's just a theory.

I love 7 and all, but have been playing 9 lately and I REALLY enjoy the characters more. I hate 8, I don't want realism with my fantasy RPG games and I enjoy being able to level up to the point of being able to kill things in 1 hit. I Believe its the first in the Final Fantasy games to scale the enemies levels to your own.

Eight was the first to scale them, that's something I didn't like, and it was hard to make good combos that broke damage limits that didn't require limit breaks.

1-6 and 7+ are really almost two separate series of games however.  The basics of combat are fairly close until you move past 10, but the over all style is drastically different.

The only fantastic PS2 games I know of that aren't done better in HD versions or on Xbox / GameCube are Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari. They're very unique.

MGS2 / MGS3 are great but even better on MGS HD (Xbox 360 / PS3).

You guys claim to like RPGs and not mention Persona 3 or 4, SMT: Nocturne, SMT: Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga! Come on guys! Step your game up!  ???

Other then that i like Ico, Shadow of the colossus, Jax and Dexter, MGS, GTA, i can actually go on and on.  :)

Personally i think Final fantasy is overrated, don't get me wrong their great games(for the most part) but its the bandwagon of RPGs.

I think what Kingzta was referring to was that this thread started out asking about favorite PS2 games, and a lot of people mentioned RPGS, but did not list the Shin Megami Tensei games.

I love those games, but my thoughts when I first read this forum was that I shouldn't jump right in and actually recommend them to someone new to the system.  I have every Shin megami Tensei gameand love them to death, but I don't think I can recommend them to someone unless they have either played them, or REALLY like RPGs where you have lots of down time.  Persona 3 especially.  That game...man you can spend hours just doing nothing.  I love it...but it's not a game I would recommend someone pay money for right off the bat.  you gotta ease into those.
