I'm really big into Survival Horror, so Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 are my top games on the system.  So many great games have been listed, I'm kind of surprised no one has said them yet.  The Fatal Frame games are also pretty damn creepy.

If you're a fan of superhero games, Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty enjoyable.

I'd still like to know the original poster's preferred Genre.

I don't veer far from the RPG or Action games myself.

 I really liked:
Ys Ark of Napishtim This is my first step into the world of the Ys games. Its colorful, fun and fairly easy to follow.

Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 The initial concept of a Square RPG with Disney characters had me extremely skeptical, but once I played it I freakin LOVE them.

God of War 1 & 2 Though I only played them on the PS3, and it took a friend to convince me to try them again after becoming frustrated very close to the beginning I own all the ones released now and love them.

Fullmetal Alchemist (atBA & CotCE) I loved the series and grabbed the games when they came out. Not a bad game on their own, but I wouldn't put much in to them if you dont enjoy the Anime

Dirge of Cerberus: FFVII The over the shoulder 3rd person view shooting was something that I had to get use to. But the familiar characters and a leveling up system made me like it.

As I look at my wall of RPG games I notice there are a lot of games that everyone says are great....I myself cant give an answer or opinion. I never had/have time to play them.

Hey all,

I found my childhood PS2 today and decided I would love to start playing on it again but I only ever had 3 games on it: Star Wars Battlefront, Sonic Heroes and GTA: San Andreas. So, I was wondering what everybody's favourite games for PS2 are? To give an idea of what games I might like to pick up. :D

Thanks in advance!

What genre of games to you prefer?

The PS2 has the best library of all the home consoles IMO and there's lots to satisfy fans of any type of genre be it RPG, action, 3D platforming, shooters, etc.

It's also a great system to collect for as most of the games are still relatively cheap to acquire.

I'm into all genres pretty much, Not really huge on shooters but exceptions can be made. Sports games are an absolute no go for me aswell.

Thanks for all these replies guys! Definitely gonna be getting quite a few of these games.

FMA is my favourite anime by a long shot out of the ones I have seen so definitely gonna check those games out, thanks! Also, everybody I have spoken to about the kingdom hearts games has said the same about them as you pretty much, going to be interesting to play them.

DMC is good, but I wouldn't throw it on a "best of" list. And I never played the Onimusha series, but just recently added them to my library.
My DS Cover Requests: Anno 1701, A Witch's Tale, A Witch's Wish, Black Sigil, Dynasty Warriors, Flower Sun and Rain, Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier, n+, Time Ace

Honesly, I'd put the DMC series on a "Best of" list way before God of War or any of the other clones out there.  Maybe you had to be there in 2001, but when DMC came out it was a real game changer for the PS2

Never been a fan of the DMC series. Just seemed overhyped to me. Just like all the FF games after 9.

I prolly should add The Bouncer to my list of likes though. I really enjoyed that game.

Lies, everyone knows that final fantasy 8 was the last one made.  And while not nearly as bad as people pretend, I'll admit it's not as good as 7.  But then again, I like 5 the best.
