I was reading about that the other day - seems legit, but apparently pretty difficult to install.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this won't really affect the visuals because of how the games were designed but rather allow you to plug into new TVs w/ HDMI?

They shared some screen shots using the converter.

As you can see, it has varying success. Mario 64 looks terrible, but the MGC 2011 demo looks pretty solid. Id be interested in the converter depending on cost and difficulty to install. I have an extra N64 laying around I could tear up anyways.

That sounds really awesome and even seems legit. I kinda wish with maybe the Retron 6 that they may think about incorporating N64 support

Side tracking a bit.

They should really make HDMI cable for GameCube.
It already outputs digital signal (the older models with the second output) so maybe making HDMI cable for that would not be too hard?
Composite cables are expensive because the cable has to turn the digital signal to analog, so maybe HDMI cable would be cheaper option?

After doing some searching and clicking some links I found Adam Koralik on Youtube.

Very informative about console signals and cables. Basicly, all those people that say there is no way to make old games look good on an HDTV without emulation are full of shit.

Well you are completely right.
In general you can upscale any RGB signals for HDTV. However you will introduce some lag.
But this is the case with every HDTV. However i do not even notice it.

I am myself using a XRGB-mini from japan connected to a sony KDL-40EX500 and it looks awesome.
This little device can also upscale composite/s-video and component.
Which connects with HDMI to my TV and output 720P signal.

However this is an expensive solution.

This might be an interesting read as well : http://scanlines.hazard-city.de

If you're going to do that, might as well use an emulator, so you can apply a high-res texture pack.

I'm sure it's because im biased, but nostalgia makes me like the original graphics better then the texture pack.

Agreed.  Plus, I HATE playing games via emulator.  It's just not my cup of tea.

I'm not against emulation per say, but I'm not interested in spending a shit ton of money on a rig to play old games either.

Take the RetroN 5 for example, it'll do pretty much everything I'll want it to do for only $100. Plays the original carts, uses the original controllers, and is a simple plug-and-play system. But it maximizes the output of graphics that are already there and makes them presentable on an HDTV.

I was recently looking into emulating PS1 and PS2 games. The hardware required to run them in HD would cost about $700, fuck that noise. Not to mention I wouldn't know what the hell I'm doing.
