I was born in '93 and by the time i was old enough to play games I had a PS1 and a N64 and I was never really exposed to the NES & SNES. I've been admiring everyone's NES & SNES collections for a while now and going to start collecting them myself and just unfamiliar with a lot of the NES & SNES games out there. Just would like to see what games you guys enjoy playing to give me some ideas on what to hunt for and try out for myself. Not looking for a specific number of games so if you have only 10 favorites i'd like to know or if you have 100 favorites post it too ;D
What would be your guy's Top NES & Top SNES Games?

For NES, I think most will probably be in agreement that the following should be in everyone's collection at a minimum:

Contra
Metroid
Ninja Gaiden
Super C
Super Mario Bros 3
Zelda
Zelda 2

Games that I recommend:

Bubble Bobble
Castlevania 1-3
Little Nemo: The Dream Master
MegaMan 1-5 (6 was... ok...)
Tecmo Super Bowl
Wrath of the Black Manta

[edit]
I have spares of the following if you're interested in a trade (I include a UGC with each game as well):

Super Mario 3
Super C
Wrath of the Black Manta (has no label on the cartridge)

TONS of RPG's to choose from

Ha, this is going to be my favorite thread. Super Nintendo is my favorite system. I have most games I want, just missing a few really expensive games that I'll pick up last if I ever do get them.

I was never a big rpg guy beyond Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy 3 so I've tried to listen to recommendations for which RPGs are good (so I'm still missing some but happy to finally get Chrono Trigger a couple months ago ;D)

These are some of what I feel are the greatest games for Nintendo and Super Nintendo. I whore out pictures of my collection a lot, but personally, I always prefer looking at folks' actual games or covers as opposed to reading a list of titles. Pics rule, text lists drool.

I put Kirby before Killer Instinct, whoops

Damn, Starfox is out of order too. The art of alphabetization eludes me..

Games still missing from collection:

NES

Game Genie
Panic Restaurant
Flintstones Surprise at Dino Peak
Felix the Cat
Bucky O'Hare
Ducktales 2
Ninja Gaiden 3
Metal Storm
River City Ransom
TMNT Tournament Fighters (rare, not sure it's good)
Little Samson
Journey to Silius
Guardian Legend
Battle Kid
Mega Man 4,5
Ninja Crusaders
Defenders of Dynatron CIty

SNES

Earthbound
Aero Fighters
Mega Man X2 and X3
Wild Gunz
Breath of Fire
Soul Blazer
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Super Turrican 2
Space Megaforce
Pocky and Rocky 2
Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 $14, $13
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
Skyblazer
Final Fight Tough (SFC)
Sparkster
Castlevania: Dracula X
Biometal
Metal Warriors
EVO
Hagane

Wiggy and madrocsz both have pretty gnarly Super Nintendo collections. Any of the games on their shelf are going to be worth owning. I just don't think I'd want to have that many games personally. Their collections are massive

Chrono Trigger

Mega Man (any)

Its usually a good rule of thumb to look at who published the game, Capcom, Konami, Nintendo, etc. Reputable publishers that are STILL making games today usually made the best quality games then. Check out racketboy.com for a good list and google best snes/nes games. You'll generally find that most people agree which ones are the best. Try to avoid most movie based games although some are good but the cutesy, cartoony platformers are best for the most part. Also check out nesguide.com and snesguide.com

some of my favorite SNES games:

Daffy Duck The Marvin Missions
Brandish
Dragon View
Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse
Phantom 2040
Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday
Speedy Gonzales - Los Gatos Bandidos
Side Pocket
Wolverine - Adamantium Rage

Blackthorne
Boogerman A Pick and Flick Adventure
NHL '98
Brett Hull Hockey '95
ClayFighter
Great Circus Mystery

I have to laugh because everyone always insults me about the fact that i've never played Zelda.
I remember that I had Donkey Kong Country and i loved it. Zelda looked stupid to me. I could play Dungeons and Dragons if i wanted rpg stuff (i said to my cousin.) I always liked Mario and DK style games the best. I also got into sports games. I started trying RPG much later.

NES
Super Mario Bros. 3
Gunsmoke
Duck Hunt

never played other NES games.

If you want to add some fighting games, Killer Instinct is awesome and the Mortal Kombats are good as well. For a cheap game that is extremely fun (especially multiplayer) try to find a copy of Uniracers.
