So I have recently gained an interest in purchasing a PS3 slim. I have done a little research online for pricing and was just curious if anyone knew when/if a price drop will be happening soon.

Between the blue-ray player and the excellent game library, I'm sure it's worth the price that it's at now, but I am willing to wait if there will be a price drop within the near future. Thanks for any advice.

Totally worth it at this point. Totally.

I woulda wager Oct/Nov price cuts. Whether its Sony price drops or just retailers trying to liquidate before it's too late.

I don't know if i could personally wait until the holiday ;D. I have two PS3's and i love them. You can pretty easily find some second hand PS3s with 120gb HDD for $200 or less.

Just checked and in Finland new Playstation 3 Super Slims (500GB edition) are starting from 208 Euros.

Used Slim models (not the scarily flimsy looking Super Slim models, but the sturdy Slim models) with 320GB HDD seem to be around 110-130 euros.

I'd like to downsize my original fat PS3, but I'm afraid of the slimmer models not running as quietly.

As for a price drop, I wouldn't expect another until E3. Your best chance to get a good deal was probably back before Christmas. Now you'll probably be waiting a while.

The warranty is likely expired for all of the slim model PS3's. Depending on how handy you are you could always replace the stock fan with a quieter aftermarket one. I remember Llama having a whole bunch of them for pretty much every console a few years ago.

Personally, I'll wait another year or so and grab a PS3 with backwards compatibility, the very old ones.

There will almost certainly be a price cut this upcoming holiday season, though at the price it is currently at it is well more than worth it

Good luck finding a reliable one at that point. Like all of Sony's launch machines, they don't have a great life expectancy.

The super slim runs completely silent, but you can hear the bd drive when it's searching.reading a disk.  Oh and it s plastic and horrible. Lol.

I wouldn't trust a second hand phat one..  They get really loud when they get hot, and might have had ylod fixes before being  traded in.

Well, to add to that, I'd also probably end up changing out the housing for a clear case. That's one of the reason's that I want a slim model. I'm not sure how much that will effect the noise too.

I managed to luck into a factory refurbed one directly from SONY and it works like a champ! If you can find one like that, grab it.
I have, however, burned through 2 xbox 360s in 5 years
