This is where I got most of my info when I did mine a couple years ago...

The softmod was the easy part... the hard drive mod was a little harder as I almost bricked my Xbox when I did it but it all turned out ok in the end.  After that, it's a matter of downloading something like CoinOPS and FTPing it to the Xbox.  There is still a lot of info on how to do the whole thing out on the internet, most of it is old, but its still accurate.

Are there EMUs on it already?  If so, I recall being able to transfer games to the HD via a burned CD/DVD.

yep, just gotta find what DVD type it takes, Some take DVD+, some take DVD-, and some take both.
FTP transfers are equally easy if you can connect the xbox to your router with a network cable

no.  If i click on the tab it says that the folder is empty.  I have been searching but i am out of my realm when it comes to this type of stuff.

Please explain if you could.  This would help out greatly.  Like I said above I am so confused by this.

Get any ftp client and hook up your xbox to either your router or pc direct. Your xbox will then show an ftp number on the bottom right of the screen. Type that into the ftp client's address bar. Username and pass should both be xbox. Then you can snoop around all of your partions, upload and download as you please to your xbox.
