It is, but it's a 1-on-1 fighter (think Street Fighter 2)

More like SF Alpha. But yeah, it really is good.

(FUN Fact: Gundam Wing runs on the same engine as Power Rangers Fighting Edition).

In a nutshell RPGs and Fighting Games in Japan are like Madden and Fifa in the states (Dime a dozen, they are everywhere).

I imported all the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy games for ~$35 (iirc) just for eye candy on the shelf so i see where you are coming from. I had Mother 2 but while back at the local game shop the owner offered me $60 in credit for it (That is WAY overpaying for a SFC copy) so couldn't pass it up.  I think he sold it for $100 pretty quickly which is just crazy considering you can easily get Mother 2 for $15 on ebay right now.

You can get all the street fighters for dirt cheap on SFC if you so desire. Mortal Kombat 1 on SFC also is not censored so you can play it with blood by default.  ;D

I was always jealous of my friend and his genesis copy of MK back when I only had a Super Nintendo. Then MK2 came out and my head exploded :o :P

I'm thinking of importing Street Fighter II (if it's cheaper than US), Megaman X trilogy and Super Metroid next. It seems that I'm more interested in importing games now since the retro store around me is a bit uppity on their prices unless you want dirt cheap filler games like Death Valley Rally and the like. I'm not the best when it comes to retro collecting for SNES since I grew up on PlayStation :P

Is Mother 2/Earthbound really worth trying? Everyone makes a huge deal about it and it's expensive as hell but whenever I talk to retro gamers around here they all tend to agree that it's kind of lame and not really worth the hundreds of dollars it sells for. If it really is worth trying I'll probably just pick up the import of Mother 2 and find a translation/walkthrough guide to help me out with it since I've heard they have guides on the web for playing imports.

Street Fighter 2 is pretty cheap. I don't think you'd save any on that. You might save some money on the others though.

There's a retro store like that here too. I don't know how they stay in business. Been there a few times and store is always empty because most the prices are 150% over ebay price.

Just buy it on the Wii's Virtual Console for $8. If you enjoy it then track down a cart of it  :)

Well, the SFC version has a much better label in my opinion :)

After shipping, it'll prolly cost more than just buying a US version, plus the US version requires two less button strokes for the character vs character code :P

I personally think both labels sorta suck, so no advantage there IMO.

@Fritz: Yeah the retro store in my area is the closest non-GameStop one without going to Pennsylvania and they're in terrible financial shape 80% of the time. I think they only make money by doubling as a retro arcade.

Also I don't have a Wii so maybe I'll grab an emulator (not a fan of them but w/e) and try it out for an hour or so, see if it's worth shelling out the bucks. I still think I'd get Mother 2 on SFC since any retro game is really not something I'd ever be willing to pay more than $50ish for, especially Earthbound.

I got the mega man x trilogy and megaman 7 in sfc about 2 months ago for 30$ on ebay from this really good seller I have been buy from for years he lives in japan so it is direct, totally worth it because the US versions are stupid priced.   I tend to get a lot of japanese games and am trying to always look for new ones worth playing.
My suggestions are: Gogo Ackman 1-2-3   Any Dragonball Z games   Sin and punishment   Hagane

The only japanese RPG I have and play is pokemon red, green, silver and yellow because they were so cheap   and played them so much as a kid that what  the goals are have been ingrained in my skull lol

Hagane is a game I've been considering; looks like a lot of fun. As for importing Pokemon games, The only one I'd really see myself importing would probably be Green Version. I'm not opposed to importing more of them though since $30 isn't really worth an unboxed Pokemon Red Version imo. Maybe importing will give me a reason to pick up learning Japanese again :P
