Question on importing SFC games.

Quick question since I'm sure the people on this site have far more experience in retro collecting/gaming than I do.

Found an entry on ebay for Final Fantasy VI CIB on Super Famicom for $25. I removed the region-lock from my SNES so is this something to jump on?
Also before anyone mentions it, this question is assuming that everything is legit, which from what I can tell it is.

Game is fully in Japanese.
Playing textheavy RPGs without understanding is hard, or in this case near impossible.

The SNES has NO region lock, other that some plastic tabs (unless that's what you mean).

The JP FF games go for next to nothing.  They're extremely plentiful and of ZERO value to US gamers.  Some games are totally worth inventing in JP copies over US, especially if you're just buying to play em and not just to collect, but as Arseen said, RPGs are not the games to buy in Japanese unless you can read Japanese.

@wiggy yeah I was referring to the "region lock" tabs. I suppose you're right with JP FF games being of little value over here. I thought at the least if I'd be unable to play it well enough it would look great on a shelf as a CIB super famicom title

Can anyone recommend SFC games that aren't a challenge to play that won't drain my wallet? I'm sure there are some that exist.

JAP version of Final Fight Guy is one good example or any of the Rushing beats.

Mega Man X games in JAP format are cheaper than US versions.

Pretty much whatever expensive snes game that you want, the sfc version is cheaper. I know they're going up in price lately, but still usually much less than snes.

As long as the game doesn't have too much text, you're good to play.

I've considered sfc for games like: final fight guy, mega man x2 and x3, castlevania Dracula x, demons crest (ultimately went for snes version on this because of the text in game menu)

I may still get FF6 just as personal shelf candy and to be honest I'd get some enjoyment out of playing it since I'm teaching myself Japanese anyway. That being said those are some good suggestions. I heard Front Mission games weren't that hard to play either if you get SFC. I'm just kind of opposed to repros (i like the idea but it's a tad grey for me) and I removed the region tabs on my SNES lately so I figured I'd see what's out there to try.

I'm thinking Super Metroid is a good choice too since I heard that it has an English option. It's also around half the price of the US version so that's always a plus.

If you know a game inside out, then yeah, go for it.

I bought a Lufia II copy boxed with manual for 12 euros (the EU game goes for nearly 50 euros, US game 75 dollars, etc)
I've played the game enough to know what I need to know to play without proper text. Plus, it's a part of the Lufia collection now

Also won an auction for DKC3 for 3$, boxed, no manual though. Platform games dont really require any reading at all, so it's great to pick those up.

Am I the only one who would think it's a good idea to buy a game like FF6/Star Ocean for mere eye candy? Either way I'll consider platformers and shmups when I go to look for imports. Heard that Gundam: Endless Duel (or whatever it is) was a good grab too.

I'm also looking into expanding my English friendly SFC collection. Mario no Super Picross is good and easy to learn and if you have a snes mouse Mario and Wario is entertaining. I also recently picked up Super Tetris 2 +Bombliss.

It is, but it's a 1-on-1 fighter (think Street Fighter 2)

I bought CIB versions of Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3, even though a) I can't read kanji, and b) I have Secret of Mana in English, and a translated repro of SD3.

Purely for shelf candy, as SoM is my favourite game.

So, no, you're not the only one.
