best tv for old systems

zygmuray:
It has nothing to do with it being flat or curved. It all about the refresh rate as Wiggy has already mentioned.

Your best bet IMO would be just ask if you can test your NES on it before you buy it.
wingzrow:
Didn't know it was due to the refresh rate. In any case, I think most of the flat screen CRTs you see were made towards the tail end of standard definition when they changed refresh rates, so using that as a gauge might not be a bad idea.

Regardless, always test these things out when possible and ask how many hours were put into them.

I have a 32 inch Sony WEGA and it's awesome for my old school games. Make sure though you get new cables for your systems, s-video (which you already have) or component if you can, that will make a huge difference.
My friends parents had a 42 inch Sony back in the day, tube style, and it would have been perfect but that thing weighed a TON.
wiggy:
^^^ JESUS!  I've got a 36" WEGA and it weighs 250lbs.  Can't even imagine a 42"  :o

Sony KV-XA34M31 34'' CRT

Sony WEGA KV-XJ29M31 29'' CRT

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that NO Sony "KV", "KD", or any with "XBR" in the model number TV will get along with a light gun.  For sure any that are in the "Super Fine Pitch" or "High Scan" category won't.

Don't worry wiggy, I won't quote you!  ;)

I have a Sony KV27FS120, and it's amazing! Interlaced Component, Composite, S-Video inputs, Flat Display, what more could you ask for? Light gun friendly, I've used an NES Zapper, SNES Super Scope, SNES Justifier, and a Mad Catz Dreamcast Light Gun, they all work great!

Google up specs on whatever TV you're looking at, and check if it's 480i or lower. If it is, then your chances look pretty good, I would still ask to test Duck Hunt on it.
