Didn't want to make another topic on the Feedback forum, so I made one here. >_>

In any case, there are numerous covers in the archive--mostly in the PS1 and DC area--where the only covers available are custom covers for DVD cases. That's fine, if that's the best we can do; however, from looking at these cases it's clear that the source image is, in fact, a RAW of the actual CD inserts. Why then aren't these inserts themselves cleaned up and uploaded first? It doesn't seem fair that custom covers, which take far more work to clean up and make into usable templates, take priority over simply cleaning and uploading the CD-case inserts, which are the source images for the DVD cases in the first place. Further, it is my understanding that once a RAW has been turned into something--be it a retail CD cover or a custom DVD cover--it is discarded, meaning if it was the latter people are stuck with the DVD cover.

Not to complain, and I'm sure I do alot, but it just strikes me as rather strange. Why should a game have only a custom cover and not an original when it's clear from looking at the custom that someone was clearly using an original as the source?

It is because the srtists doing the cover decide to do so....

I'd love to have just original covers too but it lies in the hands of the artist making a cover out of a raw...

And it is his right to decide....

Can we at least then allow the raws of a game to stay until a retail cover has been made?

I too, think that all raws should ONLY be deleted after being posted in their ORIGINAL format.

Raws do not get deleted. They get filed in their respective folders.. a lot of the custom cases are made with RAWs that are in the artist's inventory and not necesarelly from our RAW files
If you have nothing to do... Don't do it here!

actually i don't use raws all that much (probably lesss than 1/2 the time).  Raws aren't always available

i find a shitty low rez image (but i can still read the text) and just retype it and get some seperate artwork from a wallpaper or something.

if i was required to make originals before custom ones i probably wouldn't make covers at all.

yeah, seriously, you cant 'require' or 'demand' that any cover makers do anything.  they do this with their own free time, and many of them do not have all that much to begin with.  they are not paid to do this, and to 'require' them to do something is demeaning to them.  you can ask them nicely, and thats about it.  i know your intention is not to offend, but you should think how others might take it.

I think the topic creator (and everyone else's) major concern was only this:

Can we at least then allow the raws of a game to stay until a retail cover has been made?

But now, according to this:

Raws do not get deleted. They get filed in their respective folders.. a lot of the custom cases are made with RAWs that are in the artist's inventory and not necesarelly from our RAW files

It would seem we have nothing to worry about.

Unfortunately vt is not 100% right... I sometimes see through the raws sections and if there was a cover created for a game in any form I delete the raws....

Otherwise our raw folders will explode sometime...

Besides.... As has been mentioned before the artist decides what to do....

What if we compressed raws for games there is a cover in some form for, but not deleted it?
