as i was going through a box of stuff i found a set of component cables in with the gc. Theyre monster cables and fit perfectly in the slot in the back. I can only find info on Nintendo brand component, s-video and composite for gc. Does anyone know if Monster made these for gc and is it possible that these would fit another system?

What slot does it fit in to? There is a special Component slot on the NGC.
Maybe a picture would help?

iirc, only Nintendo made a GC component video cable which is because the cable itself does some of the image processing, hence why they're so expensive.

edit: did some research, there is NO aftermarket GC component cable.  The chipset was proprietary in the OEM cable, so it would've been a HUGE bitch to make a knockoff.  What you have is either not component or not for the GCN.

Exactly! That is why those first party cables demand an insane price nowadays.

Not that you need it, but to confirm what everyone else said - there are NO third party GameCube component cables.

Although I do have five sets, four of which I paid less than $3 each for. :D

I wonder why they fit so perfectly into the port in the back? Is there a universal cable?

Yes that's the port.
The cables connecting to the other are not Component.

Stated wondering:

The port says digital out, but the Component is analog.
Maybe the part in the cable turns digital to analog?

HDMI is digital.
Maybe it would be possible to wire cable that has NGC digital end on the other end and HDMI on the other?
Could that work?

It does indeed.  Ironically there was NEVER a cable that used the digital signal either :(

I hope this helps

So, out of curiosity, what happens when you hook it up with those?  They won't output component video signal, that's for sure :(
