Nothing to do with covers but still console based.

I'm looking for a converter that will run NTSC games on my PAL N64. I've got an early release N64 Action Replay and i know that the SNES version worked as a country converter but I've no games to check with.

Looking around the web there's a ton of conflicting info so I'm wondering if anyone out there has a tried and tested solution.

Cheers boys and girls.

I have seen references to a Passport v3 cart allowing you to play US carts on a PAL system. However, in my experience .... I've had 2 similar cart adapters there are significant issues due to the fact Nintendo cottoned on to this pretty early and as a result released several different CIC protection chips to stop this occurring. They had seen this occur on the SNES so went into the N64 with their eye's wide open to this workaround. Oh ... and you need a NTSC capable TV although what TV isn't these days ....

As far as I can tell you will need an original PAL cart for each CIC chip to match one on the US cart you intend to run or you will see the dreaded "Not designed for this region" error. Even then you may find games that just wont run. I had both US & PAL Hydro Thunders and it still didn't work with my adapters.

Seriously ..... just buy an old US N64 off EBAY for a few bucks. You can use your existing PAL power adapter on it along with all other accessories and it beats mucking around with carts....  ;D

That's pretty sweet if the power supply works without an adapter.  I only paid £5 for the console and Starfox anyway so I'll probably leave it for the time being. (My missus will kill me if another console goes under the TV).
I was just interested in picking up cheap import carts, I disabled the lock out on my SNES a while back and added a 50/60htz switch. Best move I ever made, imports are so much cheaper.

Yep .... I just swapped the PAL console out and plugged the US console straight into the PAL power pack.
And yep .... just look at the amount of carts available on EBAY. I ended up selling off all my PAL stuff completely and going NTSC due to the fact you can still buy brand new carts etc.... cheap too  ;D
