PS2 & NGC Aspect Ratios?

I use the official component cables for both my Playstation 2 and Nintendo GameCube and run them through my DVDO EDGE.  I have 13 consoles hooked up, obviously the older consoles should be in a 4:3 Aspect Ratio and the Wii U / PS3 in 16:9.

What about the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Gamecube though?

I have set them at both 4:3 and 16:9 and cannot say what the appropriate ratios are.

I want to view these in the best picture quality possible and that requires them to be shown in their original intended Aspect Ratio.  My Wii itself has the option of 4:3 or 16:9, but the Gamecube & Playstation 2 do not.

What is the appropriate aspect ratio for these two consoles?

It all depends on the game, some games have widescreen options, others do not.

I'm pretty sure at least the PS2 can be set to display in widescreen format. It's not on by default; you can set it up to do so by turning the machine on without a game in it and changing the system settings. I'd be surprised if the GameCube didn't have a similar feature.

Some Gamecube games support widescreen, but I think they only default to it if you are using the component cables (on GCN or Wii). They may have the options within their own menus.

Some N64 games have the option as well, but (again) it has to be turned on in each game's menu.

Iirc, any PS2 title that operates in widescreen must have the option switched on in-game as well. Not sure why the PS2 splash and menu screens have the option to switch between 4:3 & 16:9 since it really only affects JUST the menus

Both systems are like 99% 4:3. Just stick with that as your default.
