To everyone at TCP,

Thank you for your support, i really appreciate it.  :)

I was a little caught in the moment yesterday.  What i wrote  was within minutes of reading a letter that i know will change my life.  (FYI - no one died.  no one is pregnant - that is impossible as I'm 'pure by choice').  I thought i should clarify things a little. I have had a more time to think things over.

When i mentioned i need to "prioritize things in my life" i meant it in a spiritual way.  My life needs to revolve around God not just God being a part of my life.  I don't know what God's plan is for me but i think my obsession with videogames has got in the way of further seeking his plan.

I don't know if i will indeed sell all of my videogames and their respective consoles (~1000 games & ~25 consoles) but i will sell the majority.  I will let you guys here know what my plan is with selling those.  The NES, SMS, GEN, 32X, Saturn, SegaCD games should go for sure though.

I have decided to not leave The Cover Project but my contributions will be small.  My time needs to be in spiritual reflection right now until i figure out everything.  Its going to be really hard not to make covers with my free time, but that free time should be concentrated elsewhere.

I currently have some covers I completed yesterday (before the letter) that i will put up in the next few days.  Hopefully i can make some larger contributions in the future but for right now I will be taking a little break.

Thanks Guys,

- Shenske

P.S. - Please do not ask about the contents of the letter i recieved, if you do i'll delete your post

Shenske,

Your work is amazing.  Its is great news that you plan to stay here (even if its on a limited basis).

You must go where God is guiding you.  But think long and hard reference getting rid of your collection.. At one time I had 630 games across manny beautiful systems.  For purely finacial reasons I sold 98% of them (including Panzer Dragoon Saga, Bonks 3 CD, etc.).  I still regret it.  I currently own 573 and working my way back to that 630 plus number.  Instead of US Saturn Games I know collect almost 100% JP import Games.  I have managed to make it better this time.  But I still will miss my Mint Saturn collection in Large Uncracked Cases.

I wish you lots of luck and manny blessings as you work though your decision.

Thought i might give a little update.

This fall (2009) to next summer (2010)  i will be very very busy with my RCIA classes for church and all cover contributions will be a bare minimum (so much less than now).

I still do plan on selling a large majority of my games, mostly classic games.  The only thing is i won't be selling them for quite some time.  Most of my Nintendo games for example are actually appreciating in value so i'm going to hold onto them untill at least after i graduate (2.5 years ... hopefully  ;))  I'll let you guys know if i start to sell them anytime earlier than that.

In other news ...
I had to format my computer today, such a pain.  I still have all my covers and covermaking files.  It will just be a while before i get everyhting up and running again.  (I need to reinstall all my programs and reorganize many of my files)

I purchased a 60gb PS3 today too, now i can play LittleBigPlanet and MGS4  :)

- Seth

Congratulations on setting and acquiring new goals, Shenske.  This is obviously something you've given a lot of though into, and again I wish you all the best.

I've certainly appreciated all the work you've done for me, but moreover the site as a whole.  I certainly appreciate the update myself, but I hope you're not doing any covers out of obligation, even while you're taking classes.

Also, add me to your PSN list, my PSN ID is Conral and is in that online thread.  I have LBP and MGS4, among others.

to be perfectly honest some covers i make are out of obligation but its all right.  I don't like to not finish what i have started.  I also like to help people if i able to do so.  Even if it is only making some covers to sit on your shelf

Ok, i'll do that.  I haven't set mine up with the network.  It is Shenske37

Hardcore Gamer?

When is a person considered a hardcore gamer?
Sure i like to play videogames when i get some spare time here and there but does that make you a hardcore Gamer?

I have ~1000 games on ~30 systems but i still consider myself a "casual gamer".  I usually play about every other day for about an hour.  Do you guys think its the time you put into playing games or the # of games you own defines what kind of gamer you are?

opinions?

I feel it's the time put in. Someone who spends 8+ hours a day playing games I call Hardcore. Someone who owns 1000+ games and 25+ systems I call a collector.

I agree - i call myself a collector, and a casual gamer.  As a kid i was probably a pretty hardcore gamer, but I now only play maybe twice a week for an hour or 2.

I still enjoy collecting though - and that takes up more space than time.  ;D

i agree 2. I spend more time collecting and covering than i do playing nowadays. Its the guys who spend all day on Ninja Gaiden etc who are hardcore (they would have to be!!)

  • ...and that's the bottom line
I'd consider myself a hardcore gamer. Gaming is where a good chunk of my money goes every month. I usually play every day, be it at home on Wii, 360 etc. or on my cell phone when I'm on the bus on my way to and from work.

I check gaming sites several times a day for any updates, try to read gaming related news or features as much as I can. When I listen to music I play air guitar and think "that would be fun to play in rock band" :) Microsoft made me an achievement whore which adds to my motivation to play through games multiple times.

So all in all, while I'm also a collector, and the majority of my newly acquired Xbox (the original one) library is yet unplayed I'd say I'm a hardcore gamer.

I'm on a two weeks' leave and I think I'll play through some of my backlog since Febuary and March are quite filled with new releases that I have cast an eye at ;)
