How do I make sure there is more of the margin in the scan? When I currently scan, it just comes out as is.

I first preview scan and then manually choose the area to scan.
If your scanner auto chooses the area to scan I think adding colorful paper or book that is bit bigger than the cover fools the scanner to scan bit bigger.

you just have to be careful of the Colorful paper you put in there because it would skew the color of the cover art you're scanning.

I cheat and have .25" boxes with .5 pt black stroke at the corners, it does a full scan with no weird color interpretation.
