dammit, why do i keep forgetting about 9? only ever heard those numbers spoken when haggling on a trip to viborg.

ollos/ollis hyvää was supposed to be "you're welcome" in response to kiitos, but i've been told that's not really it. heard it in like '92 so i probably got confused and mixed it up with something else. olut hyvää??

Yeah I understood that (correct is: ole hyvä), but I understand your error on this as that form is used sometimes as kinda of a joke form.
And it was probably used mostly during that time when the finnish comedy lived it's golden era.

Then kinda rude inside joke for the Swedes: We Finns know that all Swedes are [Insert here Swedish word that sounds like English another word meaning swamp). :P

the one i asked google translate to translate was supposed to read; "you are the most amazing person in the whole world!"

Yeah I understood it, the thing is that Finnish separates "you" in to single form and plural form.

Single you: Sinä ->  verb ends with T
Plural you: Te -> verb ends TTE

Plural form can be used also for single person as an (old) polite form of addressing person of higher statute. (I think German uses this too).
But even then te is used for you instead of sinä. = can't mix the forms.

I think German and Spanish also separate the end for all 6 forms of persons (I, you, he/she, we, you, they) so it's not necessary to use I, you, he/she, we, you, they as you can tell it from the ending oif the verb.

That's true, also in italian it's the same

Yeah I split the topic in 2, and moved the offshoot to General Discussion.

i used to work for a Swedish company - had to go to Stockholm every month for management meetings.  Other than "hej, hej" the only Swedish I learnt was this:
Jag önskar att jag var en pingvin, glida på magen hela dagen.

I used it as an icebreaker, opening a presentation about myself, and what my teams did in the UK.  In front of senior management from US, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.  The Swedes thought it was great - nobody else knew why they were laughing.  ;D

That is so funny, I'm betting they loved it! Was the company game-related, or?
!

No, telecommunications.  I was a technical manager, so a random comment like that was not expected.  ;D

Yeah and turning that word to Finnish would make it 20% or so longer.
