kaysow:
Castlevania for the nes is good but crazy hard. it's the Classic Castlevania type; hard but fair with strict controls. last one i played like that was Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP, a remake of the old classic PC Engine Rondo of Blood. it was fantastic. other games like that that are popular are Castlevania III for the nes (tho that one's supposedly even harder) and Super Castlevania IV on the snes.

then they made Symphony of the Night for psx, which was a pretty bold deviation from the old formula. tho it's an incredible lot easier it's by far my favorite. more rpg elements & equipment, this second Castlevania type they call "Metroidvania" because it's more about exploration and backtracking. like i said, SoTN is the best of the bunch but one could argue that it was this type of game being released annually for the gba and ds that lead to oversaturation and slowly killed the franchise.

Dracula X Chronicles for the is as good value for your money as the orange box - a faithful remake of Rondo Blood with the original version unlockable, you can even unlock all of Symphony of the Night as well + added features.
Hoggs17:
My personal faves are NES Castlevania III, PS1 SOTN and SNES Super Castlevania IV with the last having one of the greatest game soundtracks of all time (IMO).
kingjohn3:
All Nintendo versions and SOTN are better than any of the 3D versions.
