Nobody has mentioned Bloodlines that was a pretty good game.

Also nobody has asked the question who is their favorite Belmont or character in the series? I like Richter the best.

I love Bloodlines, I have it new in the box still, but honestly Simon Belmont is my all time favorite I guess I'm just old fashion.

I didn't go into detail about it, but Bloodlines is my 2nd fav of the Castlevania platformers.  Just a solid title all around, I just wish the control was a little smoother.

As for which Belmont, I feel like the Castlevania games don't do much to flush out their characters.  Once in a while you get something (Alucard, Richter, Gabriel, etc) but most are fairly generic.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night is considered the best in the series. However, I'd go with Super Castlevania IV for SNES if those are the systems you're limited too. As a note, Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness are considered the worst in the series. They are truly terrible.

I 100% agree with ALL of this.  This is exactly how I'd recommend you start. Starting with what is considered the best means that you'll almost certainly be dissapointed with the rest of the series after.

I'll add that the DS and GBA titles follow the Symphony of the Night formula (often known as Metroid-vania) and are quite enjoyable as well.  The NES titles (1-3) are most definitely worth playing. I personally can't stand any of the 3D titles. I don't think 3D works well for the Castlevania series.

I like the N64 Castlevania games. Much fun but then I know how to use the controller. Alot of people hate games that are not snes because they cannot play them well. I like alot of the N64 games but every 3-d game has pros and cons. I do not collect games, i play them.

Are you saying that the rest of us don't (know how to use our controllers or play our games)?

Wow.  It's pretty arrogant to infer that someone who has an opinion, which does't perfectly align with your own, has somehow arrived at it because of a failing of some sort.

you know, i've had enough of your big mouth on this forum. parading all around every thread as if the world awaits what the great wiggy bitch has to say. You are just a barking dog with no talent or skills. an unintelligent waste. I never see you contribute anything other than opinions which noone cares about. Your excuse is always that you are busy. Like noone else is. I'm about ready to hunt you down and see if you're ready to back up that mouth of yours. you need a boot up your ass and that day is coming. you've been warned for the last time. i've had more than enough of your unsolicited opinions. get a hobby and contribute more to society than your mouth.

Come on guys, keep it civil.

You can bash the games but do not go to personal insults!!!

The boards are too quiet already, we don't need more members to leave.

Yeah, that's fine with me.  I wasn't angry in the first place, just calling out something that I didn't agree with.

Despite the crazy rant, I do agree with one point he (and others) have made...people will disagree with choices, question favorites or hated games and flat out challenge you.

But insults to people are going a bit too far.  Just because I hate Windwaker and Final Fantasy IX doesn't mean I'm wrong.  Doesn't mean someone else is for liking them.  And we all have our reasons for liking or disliking something.

But digs like "guess you don't know how to use the controller" or "you don't get to call yourself a gamer" are uncalled for and make you sound like one of the 12 year-olds on Call of Duty.

I've never played any of the castlevania games, so I can't offer my opinion on those
However, as others have said, other people are going to have different opinions to you, about games or movies or whatever, for example, I HATE the assassins creed games, some people I know love them, you just have to agree to dissagree

I highly recommend the new Lords of Shadow Castlevania too. It's not linked to the original series, but it's a great game and I can't wait to play the sequel.

How is it not linked to the series? It's a prequel to all the games showing how dracula came to be... Then Mirror of fate showed how Alucard came to be. If you think about how all the storylines go they really screwed up because Simon is in a crapton of games so he has to be like a bazillion years old...

My personal favorite is Symphony of the Night. Then the DS games and the GBA games.
No actually Castlevania Lords of Shadow is the reboot of the story they started again with a different story, cuz the identity of Dracula is revealed on Castlevania Lament of Innonce which was Mathias Cronqvist. and on Lords of Shadow Dracula is Gabriel Belmont so its not linked to the original story its a reboot from the original.

Thanks for that little bit of information. (seriously, not being sarcastic.)

Truthfully, I've played through most of the Castlevania games, and to me, none of them really fit together well.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

[/quote] you welcome bro. I know what you mean I love the series but sometimes it gets confusing with the storyline but once you read the complete storyline you get hooked into the story. I have played all games but im missing one and that's the over priced Castlevania Dracula x but well maybe one day I will be able to get.  :-\ . I got hooked on Castlevania after playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon I just love the story and gameplay and from there on I started looking for all the other games. I even like the underated Castlevania 64 most people don't like it but the only reason its cuz its a complex game but I like that types of games. thanks for your comments bro.

you can find more info about Castlevania here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania

I never put much thought into how the different games were connected or not and their stories. Now I'm thankful I never did, because it seems quite tricky to keep track of :P
