SNESkid16:

Hey guys,

So I know this is hard to believe, but I have never played a Castlevania game. I have heard nothing but good things about them and am eager to play one for the first time. My question for all of you: What Castlevania game should I get if I'm just starting to get into the series? I'm worried that I'll get turned off to the series if I choose the wrong game. I've looked at some game play for a number of games in the series and Symphony of the Night looks awesome.

I collect for SNES, N64, Wii, and all Nintendo handhelds (except for 3DS) - I do have a PS2 and Dreamcast.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the DS would be a good choice.

I will recommend the N64 games Castlevania (Castlevania 64) and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness. I never really liked the SNES games. The snes games are okay, but the 3d versions are better. I have been playing Castlevania since N64 now and I like all of them. The Dracula fights in the N64 games can be difficult, thus, you may not like these games.

However, the best way to learn why people like a series is to play the newest or most popular release. Twisted Metal is my favorite series of games but I did not start playing the series until TMIII. Most SingleTrac fans hate 989 studios versions but I like them. The 989 studios games are the reason that I started playing TM. I bought 1 and 2 after that, then TM 4, Black etc.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night is considered the best in the series. However, I'd go with Super Castlevania IV for SNES if those are the systems you're limited too. As a note, Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness are considered the worst in the series. They are truly terrible.

Blumpkin:

I highly recommend the new Lords of Shadow Castlevania too. It's not linked to the original series, but it's a great game and I can't wait to play the sequel.
