This past weekend, one of my friends had the opportunity to host a foreign exchange student from Japan. He was the same age as us, in high school, and knew very little English, but it was still an awesome experience. Obviously gaming in Japan is huge, so I figured he had played games before and I was happy to find out that he loved Mario and Super Smash Bros, and that playing his Wii was one of his favorite things to do. It was really cool seeing that even thought we were separated by a language and totally different culture we were able to hang out playing Super Smash Bros Brawl and New Super Mario Bros Wii all night. The whole experience was great and even better once I found out about our shared hobby!

Sounds familiar.  Went to a boarding school my 10th grade year (1994).  There were about 20 Japanese students and they barely spoke a lick of English (like most of Japan), but one of them found out that I had a SNES stashed in my room along with SF2, and all of a sudden all language barriers had been broken ;D

Sounds like you had a good time :D
