I just wanted to say that I didn't mean that as an attack on anyone or anything. I know this is a free service and I shouldn't be complaining about it. There are a lot of people here that do great work, both cover admins, and regular folks. I just wanted to express how I felt about the whole "why can't I find this cover" situation. Having said that, a majority of the covers I have requested in the forums have been fulfilled by the community and I can't thank them enough for putting time into creating a cover.

I know the admins require a very high level of quality before they host them and thats great but at the same time I can easily point out hosted artwork that looks like complete shit and yet it got uploaded and hosted.
The bad covers were uploaded from before the quality guidelines were put in place, they can't be removed, only replaced, so until the cover has a better replacement, they have to stay.

Just throwing this out there... but I feel like I don't ever know what this site actually needs... I get a new boxed game and go check the hosted files, If its not there I will scan it and post the raws.  The thing is, the artwork may never get used, or if it does, may never get hosted on the site.  I know I scanned Liberty of Death for the SNES months ago and posted the raws on the site.  There is no hosted artwork for it still so I don't know if anyone ever used it of if they did its probably buried in some thread somewhere.  I know the admins require a very high level of quality before they host them and thats great but at the same time I can easily point out hosted artwork that looks like complete shit and yet it got uploaded and hosted.  I don't really know what the answer is but it is kind of discouraging, like do I really want to take the time to scan these? Will anyone actually use them?  Just some thoughts.  I would like to contribute more raws but as far as I know, everything I got is probably scanned and sitting in someones box.net account unused.

Do you have a thread that has all of your RAWS posted? If you do you should link it in your sig. I find it very difficult to locate items. If you have a single thread with your uploaded RAWs then someone like myself might try and take a stab at some of those covers.

I think he was talking about this line in particular.

Yawn!

I think the problem is that newer users keep hearing how the quality has to be so high but then they see crappy covers, not realizing that these are old covers from before the high quality standards.

Well, there are a gazillion threads with it spelled out and argued until we all want to kill someone.  Believe me, it's more annoying to hear the "but there's shit in the archives" line than any of the annoyances new members bring up.

Not again....

Well, anybody new to the site only knows what's presented on the cover. If half the features on the menu bar don't work then they should be removed.

What TCP has is a toolbox with all the places for the tools labeled, but no actual tools.

Well, anybody new to the site should read up on the most common topics and then start opening his mouth and talk about things he clearly has no clue about.

Thanks Larry, I actually did NOT know about this which explains a lot.  I HAVE seen the quality argument threads in the past and I completely understand why the high standards are in place.  I also see what I consider great work get passed up and never uploaded.  Maybe they don't meet the standards (I don't know what the exact standards are).  My post was meant to point out that maybe people don't upload new raws for some of the reasons I posted and why we don't have some collections (even smaller ones) complete.

@videogametrader, I don't have my a thread for just my raw scans as I try and post them in the general threads (ex: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=4118.msg97261#msg97261 ) I think some of my older scans were not up to par as to what people are looking for but I do believe my more recent ones are pretty good quality.

@TikTekTak, I guess I'm still fairly new around here (registered in 2011 but mostly lurk) but I remember when I found this site I found it hard to find the covers I wanted either because they were not hosted on the site or because the ones that were, were low quality or not what I wanted.  I was forced to come into the forums (not a bad thing necessarily) to find what I was looking for.  So I would have to say, I agree with Blumpkin.  I was presented with a great site for covers on the surface (the links on the left) but since I couldn't find what I was looking for I had to dig for it.  And I DID read the FAQs before posting any thing on this site including the general FAQ (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=4289.0)... maybe it should be updated with "don't complain about quality"

Since you are using box.com to store the raws. Why not place everything in a folder and share the folder in your sig? This way when you post a raw in the general posts, someone can just click the link to see all of your scans.

Yeah, I do need to do that... and split out the scans into individual uploads.  Next time I upload some I will split them out and put a link in my sig.
