Couldn't they have chosen, you know, a GOOD Zelda game?

I hope the same, but my fear is that the tablet will eventually cost as much as the system itself. Which sucks, because I want the GamePad (and I still need a Wii U, for that matter) but I want a physical copy of the damned game. #firstworldproblems

OK, since a lot of people asked this, here are my reasons for loathing Windwaker.
Before I continue, you need to know three things:

-I was born in 1982, and have played every major Zelda game released in the U.S when it came out.  I grew up with this franchise.
-When Windwaker came out I was in my early 20s, and the previous console game was Majora's Mask, so I was really expecting greatness.
-Because I was 20, there is little nostalgic value here (Unlike early games in the series which aren’t great, but I enjoyed them in my youth)

I haven’t played the game in a few years, but these are some of my major grievances with Windwaker (not in any particular order)

1.    The graphics.  Petty, I know, but first impressions are important.  I was expecting Twilight Princess and we got Animal Crossings.  I have cooled on this over the years, but I was pretty pissed a decade ago

2.    THE SAILING.  I will never be convinced that sailing around a bland ocean is anywhere NEAR the exploration thrill of Hyrule field.  In a field you can do anything.  In a boat you can…sail.  And fire a canon.  Boring.

3.   Speaking of sailing…FINDING THE TRIFORCE.  What the hell was this?  Only a handful of dungeons and then the last third of the game is sailing around the ocean looking for pieces of the triforce.  I know they amended this for the remake, but still haunts me

4.   Hyrule is submerged, and for whatever reason they kept it this way.  While I know they established new Hyrule, and the split timeline and everything…this still felt like a kick in the balls to me.  Not only is it submerged, but the king even wishes it to STAY submerged at the end.

5.   Ganondorf is fat.  I’m sorry, I can’t shake that image.  And before anyone says he was a pig, Ganon is a pig beast, Ganondorf is a man.

I could keep going, but I won’t.  I don’t hate this game, and I don’t consider it the worst in the series, but I do think it’s near the bottom.  I like most of the plot, and parts are bad ass.  I am just disappointed that the FIRST HD ZELDA GAME is going to be one of my least favorites in the series.

WolfAlmighty:

Well Wind Waker (next word won't start with W, I promise) was (f***!!!!) the only console Zelda I never played because I never owned a Cube, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what I've missed.  I wasn't keen on the cel shaded art direction but it doesn't bother me now.

While I do like Windwaker, I do have to agree on most of those...except for the graphics nitpick. I enjoyed the cell shaded graphics, and they allowed more expression in the characters than previously seen, also they have aged significantly better than OoT and MM...well any game in the fifth gen era of gaming (Which I call, the "You had to have been there" generation, because anyone who grew up after it won't enjoy the games because of the chunky low poly 3D, and those who did grow up then, enjoy them because of nostalgia)

I am a fan of cell shading as games using them tend to look good for longer. Take a look at Dragon Quest VIII on PS2, fantastic looking game to this day.

I also cant agree with the sailing, while it felt largely empty, there was stuff to do, and had a bit of exploration with such a massive over-world. I have played games that tried similar things and failed miserably and such mechanics were much worse (Ultima IX?)

Megatron:

Don't get me wrong, technically speaking the game is fantastic.  But these instances killed it for me.  Had I been younger when it came out I may be more forgiving, but I have gone back and replayed all of the Zelda titles over the years, and Windwaker is one that I don't get much enthusiasm for.
As for the sailing, it's just not for me.  I find it tedious and boring when all I'd prefer to do is bomb rocks in the walls and cut grass for rupees.  Which can also be tedious, but at least that I can enjoy.

Nacho3:

I used to think Wind Waker was shitty. I got it for free when I bought my Gamecube and probably only played it for about 2-3 hours. I played through it a few months ago and absolutely loved it. I think back then I just couldn't get over the shock of the graphics being so different, it just didn't seem like Zelda to me. Can't wait for the HD remake.
