how much for the Wii U?

$300, There is a $50 price cut, but the game is digital.

Thanks for your insight.  I was actually strongly considering this purchase before seeing this post.  Screw digital downloads...especially on a small hard drive like the Wii U.

And a special edition of the game comes with a Ganondorf figure.
I'm torn, the Special Wii U controller is ok, but looks a bit lopsided. Not as nice as the 3DS.

Is the Nintendo Wii U system worth buying at this point? There seem to some good games coming out like Zelda Wind Waker HD.

My thought process when I first saw the 2DS went something like this:

That looks ridiculous! ... I must have one.

It definitely looks like one of those Nintendo currioddities. I'm just sad that the screens aren't XLs.

seems kinda unnecessary tho. 3ds is selling really well already and there's a slider to turn the 3d off, like, right there. should've made a version with two sticks instead.

you know,.. after all the shock of 2DS announcement, understanding the rationale the existence of this model, I can better accept it. It was a good move of Nintendo, the idea is good, and will sell very well at the Christmas and in October. Only won't be popular among normal gamers and gonna pass unnoticed among us ... just exactly like the GameBoy Micro, but their intention is not to reach normal gamers, but children (it's cheap for mom and dad's wallet, is more durable in the little brats hands, because it is simple and dosen't include hinges that can easily be broken, and the design seems to be ideal for smaller hands...it's not by fault of the 3D, supposedly, impairing vision in formation of children...the 3DS is far to be a Virtual Boy :\/), and I agree with the point, it gonna work, no doubt.
and about the design...neither I liked or I disliked,...just prefer my Cosmo-Black Vanilla. XD
Something, something about future;

, as opposed to a clamshell design which protects itself relatively well. (next year, 2DS XL, it looks like an Ipad with two screens).

One screen lol, rumor going around from a gonintendo website I believe says its just one screen with the plastic bordering it to simulate 2 screens, which can also explain why its not foldable.  Anyway I dont know how credible the source is but in terms of cutting costs it makes sense.

But I actually like the design.  Im not gonna run out and get one but I can see myself getting it just so Im not using my zelda 3ds constantly.

And nintendo is gonna make money on it...pokemon x and y come out around the same time.  So parents will be more inclined to buy the 2ds and the pokemon game since itd be a lot cheaper then getting a normal 3ds.  Especially families with more then 1 child.

So both "screens" would then be touch-screens?
Or can they make just half of the underlaying  screen tough reactive?

The 2DS is unnecessary for these reasons

1) Nintendo can easily update the system software of the 3DS to allow you to turn the 3D on or off completely, and if they are worried about kids, have the 3D off by default, and if you want 3D you can turn it on with the click of a button.

2) it is not exactly portable in the sense we are accustomed to today. It does not exactly look like it'll fit in your pocket..maybe that is the intention so that you have to shell out more money for a carrying case to protect your system, as opposed to a clamshell design which protects itself relatively well. (next year, 2DS XL, it looks like an Ipad with two screens). And with the design, you have to worry about kids breaking the screens more than a hinge on a proper 3DS, which is a more expensive prospect to the consumer.

The 3DS hardware already has that option built in.

Also, it's not that big. You can see in the video that it fits pretty comfortably in a child's hands. I personally hate the hinged setup. Sure, it's more portable that way, but I'm not walking around with a 3DS in my pocket. Ever. If it goes somewhere with me, then it's in an overnight bag or suitcase. I'd rather have something a but more sturdy and solid feeling.

I HIGHLY doubt it.  That makes no sense from from either a financial or engineering/design perspective.

Well that's the little article I read.  Again, I don't really know that site so I can't say how accurate they are.

Well that's the little article I read.  Again, I don't really know that site so I can't say how accurate they are.

The very fact that the article contains this...

"This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it."

pretty much kills any credibility.  The LCD isn't what makes it a touch screen, but rather the "digitizer" on top of it (considering that Nintendo is still using that method, which would make a lot of sense seeing as it's the cheaper method).  The digitizer would only need to be as big as the lower portion of the LCD (assuming it's one big LCD).

Price drop of all Wii U consoles is a boon for me. I've been saving up for one, and I'll be happy if I can get it for cheaper now. But even with how awesome the Zelda GamePad is, I think I'll skip it this time, no matter how nice it'll look next to my Zelda 3DS. Wind Waker HD being a digital download is the deal-breaker for me.

I'll cast another vote for the 2DS being pointless in my eyes, but that's really only because I have a 3DS already and actually LIKE using the 3D features. But this iteration isn't for me. It's for everyone that bitched and complained about having to pay for 3D when they were going to turn it off anyway. However, it's also for parents concerned about their kids developing eye problems, and that's understandable. But if there's anyone that complains about this thing not having a hinged design, then suck it up and get a proper 3DS if that's such a big deal to you, and just physically turn the 3D off. It's not hinged to help Nintendo cut costs, and it's also not hinged so that you'll be able to tell at a glance whether a person is playing a 3DS or a 2DS.

For me this opens up two questions:

Won't the screens be very prone to scratching as you can't close the device anymore to protect them?

Won't be some games half as good as they use the 3D mode to offer advanced gameplay?
2 + 3 = 23

1) I have to assume yes. They'll be offering a satchel to carry it in for protection, but that costs an extra $13.

2) Yes. But if you were someone who blasted the 3D as "useless" because you didn't like it, then by design EVERY 3DS game will be half as good.

Also, it's interesting to note that the 2DS still has two cameras facing outward like the 3DS. I'm guessing that has to do with its motion-tracking capabilities, though. Probably still needs 2 cameras to properly track AR Cards, too.

Very few games actually had 3D required to play (a few spots in Super Mario 3D Land come to mind) so I don't think that will be a problem. As for the two cameras, it is going to be used for AR games and you can still take 3D pictures, they just won't be able to be displayed in 3D unless you plug the SD card into a 3DS. The biggest downside I see is actually only one speaker so mono sound unless you plug in headphones.  ???
