Nintendo 2DS

you know,.. after all the shock of 2DS announcement, understanding the rationale the existence of this model, I can better accept it. It was a good move of Nintendo, the idea is good, and will sell very well at the Christmas and in October. Only won't be popular among normal gamers and gonna pass unnoticed among us ... just exactly like the GameBoy Micro, but their intention is not to reach normal gamers, but children (it's cheap for mom and dad's wallet, is more durable in the little brats hands, because it is simple and dosen't include hinges that can easily be broken, and the design seems to be ideal for smaller hands...it's not by fault of the 3D, supposedly, impairing vision in formation of children...the 3DS is far to be a Virtual Boy :\/), and I agree with the point, it gonna work, no doubt.
and about the design...neither I liked or I disliked,...just prefer my Cosmo-Black Vanilla. XD

One screen lol, rumor going around from a gonintendo website I believe says its just one screen with the plastic bordering it to simulate 2 screens, which can also explain why its not foldable.  Anyway I dont know how credible the source is but in terms of cutting costs it makes sense.

But I actually like the design.  Im not gonna run out and get one but I can see myself getting it just so Im not using my zelda 3ds constantly.

And nintendo is gonna make money on it...pokemon x and y come out around the same time.  So parents will be more inclined to buy the 2ds and the pokemon game since itd be a lot cheaper then getting a normal 3ds.  Especially families with more then 1 child.

So both "screens" would then be touch-screens?
Or can they make just half of the underlaying  screen tough reactive?

1) Nintendo can easily update the system software of the 3DS to allow you to turn the 3D on or off completely, and if they are worried about kids, have the 3D off by default, and if you want 3D you can turn it on with the click of a button.

2) it is not exactly portable in the sense we are accustomed to today. It does not exactly look like it'll fit in your pocket..maybe that is the intention so that you have to shell out more money for a carrying case to protect your system, as opposed to a clamshell design which protects itself relatively well. (next year, 2DS XL, it looks like an Ipad with two screens). And with the design, you have to worry about kids breaking the screens more than a hinge on a proper 3DS, which is a more expensive prospect to the consumer.

The 3DS hardware already has that option built in.

Also, it's not that big. You can see in the video that it fits pretty comfortably in a child's hands. I personally hate the hinged setup. Sure, it's more portable that way, but I'm not walking around with a 3DS in my pocket. Ever. If it goes somewhere with me, then it's in an overnight bag or suitcase. I'd rather have something a but more sturdy and solid feeling.

I HIGHLY doubt it.  That makes no sense from from either a financial or engineering/design perspective.

Well that's the little article I read.  Again, I don't really know that site so I can't say how accurate they are.
