What other purpose should that be done than to make a illegal copy of a game look more original?
We don't support piracy in our community just to let you know.... :(

What if it wasn't pirated? I know that I've wanted to do something similar to CDs. I've considered at one point using the official cover of the game on a completely irrelevant CD just because the cover looked pretty. =) Or... Maybe they legally copied their game, using their own copy, that they still have posession of? Just stating some possibilities, though piracy is very likely.

Come on. The purpose of this site is to help those who bought a game without a cover or possibly replace the cover with a better custom one. I fail to see the point in pirating games when with a little smart shopping games are really cheap. I got Mario Galaxy for $25, Metroid Prime 3 for $30, and Mario Kart DS for $24 all new and within a couple weeks of release. (MKDS wasn't that decent of a price, but first party nintendo games rarely drop... ever) I could have gotten them even cheaper if I waited, but half off the week of release for a AAA title is pretty damn good.

Also, a pirate isn't the same as a retail release. Stop telling yourself it is. It may play the same, and it may even look the same in some cases, but you aren't supporting the developers. With big games this isn't much of an issue, but smaller game developers they need every copy they can.

If that was directed towards, me... Then while I wholly agree with you on the subject of pirating, seeing as how every game I was was legally obtained, my only reason for posting the previous message was to try and give some reasons besides pirating that this person may have asked. I just thought it wasn't fair to jump to conclusions, but since you can never be sure on the internet...

No it wasn't, but I wasn't about to rewrite everything just because you snuck in a post in between me starting a post and me ending it.

Anyway, jumping to conclusions isn't fair, but come on. The only purpose for wanting disc labels is to put them on copied games, legally copied+owned or not. However I consider a situation where he is using it for his legal backup is absurd given the way he wrote his post.

I believe the reason tiktektak made that comment is very simple "NOBODY MAKES BACKUP COPIES OF THEIR GAMES"! The "I don't want my kid/little brother to damage my 5 dollar game" dose not work.. Why would you make a copy for someone that will surely damage and waste time and money in printable discs and ink. I bet that 95% if not higher of people that print covers on their games is because those games are bootlegged

If you want to collect a game and still play it you will do one of 2 things
1- be very careful when handling your game
2- buy a 2nd copy.

I'm sure that most of the gamers that have made a backup have used the cheapest discs available knowing they don't care for what happens to it. And certainly not waste money on ink to print a cover for it..

Another thing.. I don't know why I uploaded a few disc scans, but it seems to me that having the option to do so in the first place goes against the hole "We don't support piracy in our community" thing. After thinking about it I realized I should not have uploaded those scans in the fist place.

Is there a good reason why we have the disc scans available for download here?

Is it so people that buy a game that has it's cover damaged can print it on a sticker and put it on? (only legitimate reason I could think of)

CUMON!.. What gamers in its right mind would do that.. Not only can those stickers damage your system, but why would you buy a scratched up game in the 1st place and then care about what the art looks like!

My 2 cents

*Re-reads post* You're right, after looking at it from a the proper perspective, I see what you mean. Anyway, he DOES post a good question. Though they have crappy label makers, I've always wondered if there was a better way to make my CDs (Music) look nicer.

I meant to differentiate the CDs that coughs was talking about, and the mp3-filled ones I was making a reference to.

In regard to disc labels being made available here I was of the opinion Snowcone wanted this site to be a repository of all the original artwork associated with a game. In my opinion that includes the disc label if we want completeness. ... and some labels are works of art in themselves  :D

As far as labels for cartridges go that's a whle different ball-game. The amount of carts picked up at video shop sales etc where the label is "stuffed" is probably in excess of 60% and I see absolutely no legal problems printing out a replacement label for an original cart in this specific situation.

I agree with the cartridge labels.  Most carts have a glued on label that will get damaged over time and it is so expensive to bootleg a game cartridge it's just not worth the effort (in mass I mean)

I really dislike the idea of CD/DVD labels being available, being that making a bootleg cd/dvd can be done by any Joe, Dick and Harry with a computer.

But then again. It's me personal opinion and I do respect the decisions of other members (specially the site admin). LOL

On the subject of CD labels themselves, you have to consider the whole community of CD-burners. Pirates aren't the only people who use labels for their CDs. I, and countless others, use them to make important CDs a bit more... special. If you happen to like one CD a whole lot more than the others, you may want to give it something better than some simple Sharpie, you know?

Totally agree with that. I myself own an epson that is CD printing capable (and use it a lot when I go around leaving Demos at TV stations and production houses)..

But we are talking about games here.. not a personal Demo CD.

Right, and the only reason I typed that response up was because of you disliking CD/DVD labels even being available.

(Extremely off-topic, but would someone mind giving some input on my post in the feedback forum?)
