For the seemingly 100st time -> Retail 100% all the way from real scans, no fancy pants stuff. ;D |

NES---retail all the way with spine being only change. I like red and white Nintendo logo at bottom and publisher name at top and game title centered. Gives it some uniformity without the really big TCP custom. Larryinc64 made a mock up for me of Castlevania with a blue/black color scheme like the old console box. If he allows me I'll share it because it is nearly perfect if you want to go retail with a little custom thrown in. Initially I asked him for that mock up for black box NES originals but then took it a step further and thought it would be awesome for all classic titles. Turns out that was a good call. SNES--- the retail spine is about as UN-uniformed as it gets, very inconsistent. But the TCP logo is too big. So, again, Super Nintendo logo at the bottom with publisher name at top with retail game title centered. So bottom line on that is retail with custom spine. I wouldn't mind seeing this described spine with a theme color as the background as opposed to the black. Like Super Mario World could have the same blue as the front cover, Yoshi's Island could be Yoshi green, etc. I think I might have mentioned this before. N64--- retail spine with, again, different theme colors. Donkey Kong yellow, Mario blue, Zelda green (for Links tunic) or gold, etc. Retail fronts and backs. I like the artwork on these spines. I hope larry lets me share that Castlevania cover he made and hopefully more are coming. I think you all would be very impressed |

@wiggy: yeah, some of your stuff and others around here makes me question wether to go full retail with all of it's flaws or just make my covers pretty instead. what i'm tinkering with looks like it'll end up as customs that reuse assets (logos, illustrations etc) from retail releases. like rearranging a psx-cover to fit a dvd-case, so i can mixmatch the best parts of different releases (region-specific, rentals, rare editions and so on). should end up being completely in the SPIRIT of retail at least. and if some other graphic should end up as a better fit; as long as the assets and style of layout are consistent with it's corresponding time period it's legit enough for me. |
