Zelda 2, not that bad

I like having Zelda II in my collection. I remember playing that game as a kid and becoming frustrated to no end. I know my reason is lame, but I thought the game was too hard. I have tried a few times over the last twenty years to beat the game but have come up short. Myself and Zelda II are not meant to be. It will always have that one up on me.

It's the Box Set of the Prima game guides int he hardbound colored books.  I had some of these but either sold or ruined them and this just looks really cool.

I'm in the "I really enjoyed Zelda II" camp, though I believe that it is far from the best Zelda game.

I've always used a guide whenever I've played through the game, and therefore I've never found it to be all that difficult. If you play it without using a walkthrough, it's easy to take a wrong turn and end up in an area where enemies will destroy you with ease because your level is too low.

I enjoy the combat, and the overworld has a very unique and interesting layout. The music is also pretty memorable, even though it has a weird vibrato sound.

I didn't say the ROM is the Japanese one, just the difficult level, like if it was adjusted prior the release on the virtual console. I could be wrong, but it feels more difficult than the original NES release. I have the same feeling about the recent Oracle of Seasons and Ages releases...
Or maybe I'm just too old for this hobby...

Ah. No, they wouldn't put that much effort into anything. AFAIK the Oracle games were (aside from text) the same in Japan as in the US. The only things that made the Japanese Zelda II more difficult were some of the enemy placements, less EXP from many enemies, and the wonkier leveling system, none of which is present in the US 3DS release.

The only thing I'd say that's legitimately "harder" about the 3DS version is the controls, just because the 3DS's tiny d-pad and buttons can't match an NES controller. Probably not as much of an issue with a 3DS XL.

I could never get into Zelda II. I tried it earlier this year and didn't get very far until it frustrated the hell out of me. The gameplay mechanic just felt weird.
