I wouldn't put it past you.

Wow UncleBob, that thing is AWESOME. I've always admired your commitment to all things Nintendo, but driving 27 hours over two days to pick that thing up is pretty damn impressive. Can you tell us a little more about the trip, how you found out about the machine, etc?

Is it sad I was thinking close to the same thing? Or maybe like (12) 3 inch binders =P

I bet if you did a little research you can probably find someone who could reprogram eproms for you with what ever Vs. games you desire on them. Seeing as there's people who can bring dead CPS2 boards back to life by reprogramming the eproms (I had my 2 D&D arcade boards done), it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to think someone could reprogram Vs. games if its simple as swapping out the rom set.
Totally epic pick-up btw! I didn't even know these existed. I definitely want one, but I don't want to imagine what these things are worth...

Apparently, it's possible - with some exceptions.
Each game is made up of several chips. The ROMs themselves are apparently pretty easy to program. Apparently, the PPUs are not - and there are a handful of different PPUs. Each PPU acts like a security chip - one PPU might work with a few different games, so you could flash some ROM chips to work with that PPU, but it'd have to be one of a few games. Then, to make things more complicated, there are games that come on "daughter boards" and are virtually impossible to recreate.

This site has all kinds of interesting information on it, including some video tutorials that explain everything I just said a lot clearer.

Well... How I found the machine isn't all that impressive... I found it on eBay. ;)
Up until about two months ago, I would randomly check eBay for local arcade machines. I've always wanted one (or a few), but was never very serious about it. After a bit of a spell of not checking, I went on and checked and saw that I had missed a Nintendo Playchoice 10 machine that sold for $500 and was located less than 1 1/2 hours from me. I was *pissed*.
So, I started checking eBay about every two days or so, just to see what else popped up. I wasn't going to let another cool, cheap, and local system pass me by like that. Found this unit listed, fell in love, and decided I wanted it, 27 hour drive be damned! Thrilled that I did, too, because it is an awesome little machine.
If I ever become crazy rich, I'd love to take it to an auto body shop and have them work out the dents, repaint it, etc., etc. It's an amazing machine and I would love to give it the TLC it deserves. :D
