Hello, Kyle, I just woke up so my brain is not fully functioning. lol. plus, i have an important matter to deal with today. I will try to offer some help before I get the coffee brewing:

I do not have technical specs for your system but we can start with XP and cover Vista, 7 and 8 along the way. Let me know if you have a Mac or Linux.

try to clear the print spooler. Microsoft has one of the best support databases on the www and I've already found a link for you:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946737
title: How to cancel printing or to delete a print job that is stuck in the print queue in Windows XP
vide Method D: Stop the print spooler and delete all spooled files

if you've reinstalled drivers, then make sure that you've also reinstalled updates from HP:

I do not have time to read the manual now but if this model does not have print heads, then the Nozzle on your cartridge is the print head.

try here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-Print-Heads

the printer is old but given the fact that you are using a new cartridge before the issue could mean that the printing job has not been cancelled or that the nozzles/print heads need to be cleaned.

Try all of the tips mentioned, then let us know if it solves your problem.

okay. I need my coffee now. busy day today so I have to go now. Good luck to you ...

Hey taigr81m, great info! I am running Win7 Professional. This is what I've done so far to try to remedy the issue: Unplugged the printer for over 24 hours in hopes that it would clear any memory stored on the printer, tried putting my old empty cartridges back in, completely uninstalled the device driver and all related HP software, then I bought a new power supply because HP told me too. I think I may have tried cleaning the print heads before, as I used the HP software to try and "clean the print cartridges." Let me reiterate that these "new" cartridges that I put in were past the warranty date; I bought them like that from eBay to try and save some bucks. Could this be the cause of my problem? Because it was printing a cover fine with the expired cartridges until about 1/4th the way though... I will try soaking the cartridges in alcohol, but I don't think they are dried up. I really do think it's a memory problem, but I've done everything possible to try to clear the memory.

Hello, Kyle, I have techsupport background and I operate my own repair business. Obviously, I am not omniscient but I know alot about pcs and peripheral devices. anyway, I am not an expert about printers but if they have nvram, then memory will need to be rest using a different technique. I will have to check this model for nvram. A factory reset usually clears the nvram but not always. Some routers, for example, require a cli command or a series of actions (as pressing the reset button for 35 seconds, then power off while still pressing etc)

if cleaning the cartridge does not solve the problem, then we can start from scratch and try to find the issue. I will help you.

let me see what i can discover about this model. meantime, let the cart dry, then try it.
the warranty expiration date is not linked to desiccation of ink. If the ink is dry it could cause a problem . the printer may be slow and quality will be awful.

taigr81m:

I wonder if Ink Cartridge Regionalization is an issue for you. I notice that you had purchased the cart from eBay. Did you get the cart from overseas?

taigr81m:

NVRAM is not an issue for you and your model. resetting the printer according to the data in the user guide will reset the printer.

let the cart dry, then try it.
hopefully, the cart is not damaged. if anyone touched the copper-colored contacts, then it could cause an electrical issue or clogging. we will wait to see what happens when you try the cart after drying.

I'll check back to see if you have posted more info ...
