Contra III question
Spoonman:
So I've been playing a lot of Contra lately, and I never owned Contra III for SNES. I was just browsing eBay to see if there were any good looking ones out there and I noticed that some are in the traditional SNES cart while others look like they're in the fatter SNES cart for the super graphics chip (like Star Fox).
Anybody know why this would be?
Nacho3:
I think what you are talking about is just the difference from the early carts to the later ones. The first games that came out just had a long oval line indented under the label and newer ones had the dent that went all the way to the bottom of the cart. So, it was probably just another batch of that game that was made after they made the switch to the new carts.
Spoonman:
That would make sense. It's been so long and I was very young when SNES was current, I didn't remember that. I have copies of Mario Kart, and F-Zero that also have just the oval like you're describing. I thought those were fatter to accommodate a larger chip or something.
Dravenae:
Before you make the purchase, you might want to look at the Genesis version, Contra Hard Corps.
I have only played the SNES version, so don't take my word as gospel, but some people are suggesting that the Genesis version is actually better than the SNES version. Apparently the only difference is that the Genesis version doesn't have (or changed) the top down levels.
This is what I have heard, so please don't take it as gospel. I haven't played the Genesis/Mega Drive version, and I don't think the PAL regions even got the Probotector version on the Mega Drive? I'm not a big Contra/Probotector fan, so I have little reason to invest time into researching either game.
Just thought I'd mention it. You'll probably want both versions anyway, making this message pretty mute and void, but at least I can say I "tried helping" a fellow collector.
Spoonman:
I appreciate it. Thanks!
