Hey,

I'm just beginning to collect some Genesis games in anticipation of the Retron5. Picked up a game lot today and some of the games' cover art has a black background, and some are red. I want uniformity in the collection and I'm trying to decide which way to go. I like the red because it's different than the SNES covers and will clearly stand out as being Genesis, but to me the understated look of black has an appeal of its own. For those that value uniformity, which way did you go with your Genesis collection? Black or red?

Sorry if this has been posted already. I looked and didn't find.

Edit: reached a decision. Rewatched a video of a collection that brought me to this website in the first place. The red stripes just pop so I'm gonna go that direction.

changed my mind again. just started printing and I'm going to go for the stock look. They didn't match originally so... whatever.

I had the same dilemma when I started to collect Genesis as well.  Like you, I wanted uniformity at first, but was torn on which design to choose.  Eventually, like yourself, I just decided to go with the originals and forsake uniformity.  Figured if it was good enough to SEGA to have a bunch of different variations, it was good enough for me.  I'm really glad I went like that as I actually quite like the "salt and pepper" hodge-podge look with all the different spines lined up.

Original Genesis covers have way too much verity to pick just red or black. When it comes to the replacement of covers I just pick whichever looks best.

  • Coffee... What would I do without you?
I went with black for my Mega Drive covers. I tried the blue covers, but I don't know. Mega Drive covers to me were always black with a grey grid. That's what sticks out to me from my childhood.

There is no problem in choosing as we all know that Sega color is Blue. ;D

(Nintendo = Red, Sony = Yellow & Microsoft = Green)

If you go with black, I made this mock up a while back for a Black/Red hybrid that would make it easy to convert red to black.
