Hey there, finally got registered!

Just curious what everyone uses as far as storing their UGC'd games. IKEA? Whatever you already have?

Ideally looking for ideas for something that doesn't have a lot of wasted vertical space. The IKEA stuff I've seen (Expedit, Billy), have quite a bit of that... Though maybe I have yet to stumble upon the right product line.

I got some shelves from Wal-Mart that were fairly cheep, and are great at storing any type of media. Let me go see if I can find them again. . .

This was the one i got, I have 3, 2 of them are currently put together, A little wobbly, but very good for the price.

If you buy extra shelves for the billy there is no wasted space issue.

I'm using a couple of those with an extra shelf. When I get into a larger space I plan to get a couple of the larger Billy bookcases to pair with these' along with some extra shelves.

This. A lot of the guys on cheap ass gamer use the Billy and really like them. Seems like one of the better affordable solutions.

I saw the same comment elsewhere, but looking at them online there was a significant amount of wasted vertical space in the pictures I saw.

Also have matching floating wall mounted shelf and I plan on buying another smaller one in the same line to keep the room all matchy matchy.  They don't look cheap in person and with adjustable shelves there is little wasted space.

The Ikea Billy shelves are good, especially since you can purchase extra shelves online. I have the Besta Shelf unit http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50253896/#/50102138 from Ikea that I have yet to put together, maybe this weekend , but I looks very good for what I need.

I use tracks and untreated lumber (Games are not that heavy, don't need treated stuff), and it works fine and its pretty cost effective for the amount you can store with a long piece of wood that is 6 inches wide and 1 inch thick.

Something that is cost effective as well is a call back to the 60s, Cinder blocks and lumber. Just place a piece of wood on the ground, place cinderblocks at regular increments (it works well if you can get wood that fits in the groove of the cinder block), and repeat for every shelf you need.

Building a proper bookcase can also work well if you are interested in carpentry just a touch, and they are simple to build if you don't want to get fancy with adjustable shelves.

Here's what my setup looks like with the Billy's.

I wish I had a higher ceiling so that I could display more items on the top but can't do much about how my basement was built.

You can even buy extensions for them if you have higher ceilings which will add two more rows to what mine show.



One shelf configured the way I have mine can hold 232 UGCs.

Edit:  Seeing the Alfie jersey hanging there makes me said since he signed with Detroit today.  The city of Ottawa is seriously in an uproar today.

Like some of the shelving that some of you post, but my wife and i are both architects so i still don't know if we are going to buy them premade or if we are going to design them.
