When I'm searching for a cover on the sites data base, many times, especially with popular games, there will be numerous versions of a cover; such as Turtles in Time for SNES. It's not always easy to see the differences from the thumbnail. It would be nice to be able to roll over the thumbnail and have the image magnified.  Right now, one has to download numerous images to see which is the best.

I think all the guides and rule shouldn't be in a post they should be easy to find in the guide link, not having all apart in post.

These is how it is now: Post:
How to print a DS cover
How to print a Nes cover
How to clean a nes cartridge
How to clean a Snes Cartridge.

It should be more easy to find things not searching all the post, it should be the link to guides and rule, inside that link all the guides and rule:
How to print Covers
How to clean cartridges

And inside that the explanation of every case

New design looks fine to me as a splash page, clean quite easy to navigate. Only criticism would be that having the console categories smashed up hard against the left looks a little rough. Bring that column in a bit, give it some breathing room.

Oh that's completely unstyled at this point. I didn't have it in the original design so I wanted to show what that would look like. I'm bad at design but not that bad. :)

Good feedback. I plan to make the guides stand out as actual content and not exist within the forums.

I'll make sure the cover pages and game pages are much more user friend in terms of locating a cover and knowing what's different about it. When I have a mock up for that ready, I'll share it.

Ok this may be dumb, but most sites have a symbol for their homepage. Right now on TCP it's the little milk looking jug, but that's a part of snackbar games right? So if you were wanting to make this more independent, would it have a new logo?

I mean everything has logos nowadays!  ;D
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

in terms of that what about a Game Cartridge in a blanket for the LOGO........The Cover Project LOL
But on another note since its common place now adays the logo should be a link to the main page

I was wondering about the logo too. As much as i like Larry's logo (its really fun) i like the  clean look of just the words "The Cover Project"

1. I understand that we want to separate ourselves from the Snackbar Games branding but should our logo somehow pay homage to it?  I was thinking of a glass milk bottle instead of a milk carton. Yes it has nothing to do with games but it still separates ourselves from Snackbar while still giving them a gentleman's nod.

2. If we are going to separate ourselves from Snackbar shouldn't we change our colors? Granted i like our colors but its the same as Console Covers (we had the color scheme first though, haha). VGBox art: Red, ConsoleCovers: Orange, CD Covers CC: Orange, CGalaxy: Orange/Yellow. Perhaps we should further distance ourselves from them with blue or something?

3. Can we increase the width between the covers on the new front page?  They kind of get jumbled together.  I also happened to like the game name next to the cover image. Maybe when you pan across the cover it gets darker or black and has the game title across it?

4. I can do a quick visual mockup of what i was thinking fro the site if you would like. I've thought about it for about 4-5 years now

The new site looks a bit empty to me, I may make a Photshop mock up when I get home. I have a few ideas that may be hard to type.

And one thing with the systems on the side, can they be grouped by manurfacturer?
It annoys me seeing Gamecube and SNES not clumped up with the restm Same with SEGA.
I think a font change and removal of the underlines would look better.

It's funny because when we launched Snackbar Games in 2002 nobody used orange online. It's a harsh color. Now, tons of people use it even if SBG did move away from it with our latest design. As for the covers on the front page, yes we can increase the spacing and the idea would be to have the cover details show up when you moused over it. The link would go to the page for that game with that cover in detail mode.

Keep in mind that the sidebars haven't been styled at all. That said, I'm eager to see what you would do with the front page.

Even if the logo was as simple as the initials "TCP" being all fancy, that would be cool.

And for colors, I really think a dark purple would look really nice, even just as accents.

My vision is something like this ...

Not really monumentally different. A different paint job and no longer 'ugly as sin'

I like that shenske. It pulls in the basic elements that I put together but has a different flair. Not a fan of the bg for the sidebars, but that's not terribly difficult to change. Do you have that in a format I can work from?
