Realisticly, the price of such a game would be $80+. Would anyone here be willing to pay that? With the popularity of classic gaming still on the rise, it doesn't seemed too far-fetched to see Sonic The Hedgehog 5 as a Genesis release. I thought it was interesting that games like Pier Solar did fairly well, and I loved the expanded soundtrack on Sega CD idea. It would be interesting if Sega did something like that. What does everyone think about this idea?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. There isn't ever going to be another "officially licensed" SNES of Genesis game.

I could see a game in the same style as Genesis or SNES, ala Mega Man 9 and 10. However, an officially liscenced brand new game released on carts? Not gonna happen. Neither Nintendo nor Sega manufacture those consoles anymore, and have no real reason to manufacture games for it. As popular as retro gaming has become, the market is still niche. And with things like Virtual Console, Wiiware, and the like, there's no reason to make a physical copy of a game that plays in the same style. Hell, you can use the same style and not be restricted by the hardware, just like MM9 and 10. Those two games, similar as they are to NES games, are too advanced to be put into NES carts.

Now there are people who are making NES, SNES, and Genesis games now, but these are indie develpers who loved the old consoles and are trying to breathe new life into it for no other reason than nostalgia. For those games, find a kickstarter page and pledge, and hopefully they'll get made and you can enjoy new games on old systems. But they won't be officially liscensed.

To go on a slightly off topic rant:
I personally am getting sick of all the retro looking indie games. Ti seems like now its just a gimmick to get there unoriginal games to sell, especially seance most of the games rip off game play or art styles from Mario or Mega Man. It was cool a few years ago when this was new, but now it has been overdone to death.

Back on topic:
To have a new and original game on a retro platform, or a official sequel would be cool, but incredibly unlikely, retro gaming on retro platforms is a very small market, even smaller for people who would pay $80 for a game, Sega would probably be the most likely to do it. Thay have been licensing some Genesis on a chip systems recently. But making carts and everything would probably cost quite a bit.

What ever happened to the Cheetah Men 2 re-release Kickstarter?

With the new consoles coming out, the retro scene will die down for a few years. Nintendo or Sega aren't going to undermine their current release's by releasing games for generation 4 machines. Nintendo and Sega are both partners with each other and other companies. Releasing game for older consoles suggests that their focus on their current consoles is waning, therefore other companies may question their partnerships. Nintendo isn't going to risk that, and Sega can't afford to risk that.

We may see a rise in unlicensed games though however.

I think it died because a) they were asking for too much to get the project going and b) the game is complete and utter crap. Only worth having to say you have it.

According to this, it was funded with well over the goal.
Two is on eBay, over $200 each.
One is on Amazon NEW for $400, and there a "Special LIMITED Edition" one for $10,000 "Banned in over 75 countries so far, lol"

People will buy anything.

While I don't ever expect any more licensed games, I'm a little surprised that Nintendo hasn't ever made a retro attachment for modern day systems. Sure, they have an online store. But imagine if they made an attachment for the Wii or Wii U that let you plug in old carts. I'm sure that  good number of folks would pay extra for an officially licensed product like that.
My DS Cover Requests: Anno 1701, A Witch's Tale, A Witch's Wish, Black Sigil, Dynasty Warriors, Flower Sun and Rain, Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier, n+, Time Ace

What with the rise in popularity of reproduction carts (there's a new store seemingly every time I turn around), I'm rather shocked no one has made new cartridge shells and boards for a variety of the older systems.  Sure, there'd be some mild compatibility problems, and I can't imagine them being cheap, but it's not like repro carts are cheap to begin with.  With a new cartridge shell reminiscent, but not the same, as the originals, it'd also help to curve the issue of reproductions trying to pass as authentic copies.

This is actually something I'd love to do, honestly enough, but lack the resources, both know-how and financial...

Retro USB has some NES, and I think some SNES shells and boards. The NES stuff is $5 for shells and $4 for boards.

I'd love it if Nintendo brought back the 90s and sold a line of retro collection products consisting of NES and SNES. It will probably never happen, but I'd throw all of my money at them if they restarted production of the old game cartridges. They could probably sell boxed games for $20-30 each and still make a handsome profit. It'd be a great alternative to paying $50 for a Secret of Mana cart or hunting around garage sales and pawn shops all the time.

I'll buy the NES and SNES virtual downloads from them when I get a WiiU one of these days, but digital copies just aren't the same.

I'll probably eventually end up buying a bunch of repros for the expensive SNES games I want from a person who offered the service.

I think I'd shit my pants with nostalgic euphoria if Nintendo opened some of these stores again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYjgHLFZMa0

Well, to properly answer your original question, it looks like the game was produced and shipped (as best I can tell)

Also, stop using amazon and eBay listings that haven't ended. Those don't mean anything. I can list SMB/Duck Hunt for $5K but it doesn't mean that's what it's worth.

I remember a SONIC SEGA official plug-n-play with about 30 Sega games on it sold during a Christmas season recently at Wal-Greens, and I was tempted to get it to see if you could use the SD card slot to put roms to play, or if it would only play specially made roms that they want you to pay to download from them. I have over 100 games I am not reBuying to play.

I was considering getting one of those too, but decided to pass on it after seeing this review.
