I want to start collecting TG16 games so I have the USA TG16 but now I want to be able to play CD games and imported Hu Cards as well as imported CD games. I don't know where to turn. So I thought I would ask here. What can I do to play it all ?!?!

Any sites or YouTube videos to look out for ?? Please help me out!! ???

Well, you already have a Turbografx-16 for playing U.S. Hucards. If you get a PC-Engine Duo, you'll be able to play pretty much everything else as the CD portion of the system doesn't have regional lock-out (therefore you can play both USA CD based games and Japanese CD based games on the unit) and you'll be able to play Japanese Hucard games. It's a big investment. You should be able to get a PC Engine Duo for about $200 and $60 shipping and handling. I actually won my PC Engine Duo for $107 on ebay. So, if you keep an eye out, you can probably get one at a better price.

Thanks so much for this advice!!! I kept looking around not knowing what to get off eBay. I saw converters and Super CD cards and boosters and had no idea where to turn and for the price of a Hu converter I could get a system.

What do I do for 2 player action controllers and more buttons them just 2 ?? Thoughts ?

Converter from PC Engine to Turbografx-16 are very expensive. They sell for well over $150. The advantage of the converter is if you already have a turbografx-16 in addition to the Turbo CD, you can then buy a Japanese Super System Card 3.0 for about $20 which will virtually transforms your system into a duo. In my opinion, it's just better to buy the PC Engine Duo.

The Turbo Duo/PC Engine Duo is what NEC called the single console unit that has the CD, Hucard port and Super System Cards 3.0 built into it. However, The PC Engine/Turbo with the CD attachment and Super System Card 3.0 is virtually the same hardware as the Duo.  The Super System Card 3.0 increases the ram. There's another card that came after the Super System Card called the Arcade Card. It increased the ram further more. Mostly SNK games use it such as World Heroes. Also, there is a port of Strider that uses it.

I agree, after much research, the way to go is a US Turbografx-16 AND PC Engine Duo R combo.  This will allow you to play US HuCards on the US system and Japanese HuCards / CDs and US CDs on the Duo R.

As for imports, if its not an RPG or they are not text heavy, almost all Japanese versions of games are cheaper then the US versions.  I highly recommend
Akumajo Dracula X Chi no Rondo.  This is NOT the same as the SNES Dracula X, it is much better.

Depends where you get it. I bought one from Consolegoods a couple years ago for around $80. They still sell them too! Funny, I just checked and I guess he uploaded a quote from one of my emails as a Customer Comment lol.

Anyway, I guess it wont really help you play CD games, but if you want something to play import Hu-Cards on your TG16, the converters here work great and don't cost the $150 that some people sell them for. You can find them here under the PC Engine section:

Tell me which 8-bit & 16-bit games you enjoy and I'll make some recommendation.

I don't mean to derail this topic but i have a Turbo question.

Are the controllers for the PC Engine / Turbo GrafX region free?  What about the multitap? I'm curious because i am thinking about importing some controllers but i don't want them to be worthless. I would prefer not to have to mod them.

Anybody tried/know about these?

As far as I know the US TG16 controller and multi-tap have the large connection
and every thing else has the smaller one including the US Duo and Duo-tap and all import/PCE (so pce controllers work on us duo)
There is a dude who makes a conversion cable on pcefx forums for about 15 bucks I bought one so i could play my US tg16 controllers and tap on my duo but he also makes a cable the other way around as well so you can play duo and pce on US TG16

There is a guy on ebay selling new US TG16 controllers for 20 bucks a piece and also I bought a 6 foot generic extension for like 5 bucks
I use the extension to bring the multitap out 6ft instead of buying 5 extensions
So the conversion cable I bought is basically the same extension cable but with a small male end.

looks like he up the price to 25

I can pm you more info on the conversion cable guy he makes a small batch of cables every once in a while
