I stumbled across this guy's site, which is kind of fun to look at.  I found this one though and I think it's a really great idea.

http://davesgeekyideas.com/2012/11/29/wii-u-peripheral-for-playing-ds-and-3ds-games/

Since Nintendo has done a Super Gameboy and the Gameboy Player, does anyone think something like this might be coming?  With the game pad on Wii U it just makes a lot of sense to me.

Also I have not been a fan of the game pad at all yet (don't own my own Wii U yet) but I realized if they start designing more games the way they do 3DS games, I might be into it.

When the Wii U was first announced, that is all I could think about is that we were going to get a DS player somewhere down the line. I hope Nintendo does follow through and releases a DS player rather the doing an eshop could of thing forcing you to rebuy games.

This was one of the first things I thought of when the Wii U was announced, I hope it gets made. It probably will be later in the life cycle. When 3DS hardware will be cheaper, the GBP was basically a GBA duct taped to a Gamecube.

It would be a Pre-Order for me ive been Wanting one for along time way before Wii U was out! then i was pissed when i saw the U Draw, Cause i was like that could have made it work, have both screens on the TV and using something like the U Draw for A controller but it would work a hell of alot better on Wii U thats for Sure!!!!

If anything it would be a 3DSu, but with semantics aside, this WOULD be a great idea. Does the Wii U have an expansion port or is it all USB? If it is, that could be stopping nintendo for fear of people hacking the device to dump 3DS cards.

If I'm honest, I can't imagine them doing something like this. I would definitely like them to, but since they have been promoting putting both Game Cube and Game Boy Advance games on the Virtual Console, I would have no reason to believe they wouldn't follow suite with the DS.

I wouldn't imagine that they would even think about making it possible to play 3DS games via the Wii U. Nintendo would be short hanging themselves if that were the case. What's the point in buying a 3DS, when you can play them on the Wii U? Doesn't make sense to me that they would even think to do that, plus, does the Wii U even had the architecture to play 3D games? I know that it has been hinted at.

TLDR : Not likely.

Well Gamecube and GBA games are old and not sold anymore in mainstream stores, like NES, GB, SNES, GBC, and N64. DS games are still being produced, Nintendo is still making copies of most of their first party titles. Downloadable versions can possibly be released eventually, but it does not seem likely any time soon.

It could maybe take a little away from 3DS sales, but there is still a point to buying a 3DS, portability. The attachment would probably cost almost as much as a 3DS anyway, judging by the Game Boy Player, it would probably be a 3DS without screens or a battery that plugs into your Wii U. So any lost 3DS sale would be made up by this being sold, plus it give a reason for people with a 3DS to buy one, or a reason for people without a Wii U but a large DS collection to buy a Wii U, like me. And Nintendo would still make money in 3DS software sales.
3D would probably have to be cut from the Wii U one though, 3DTVs kinda died.

Just USB... But if they were considering doing one of these add-ons for the Wii U they would have put some sort of expansion port in. The fact that they didn't is telling.

A valid point... if they hadn't already done it twice over in the past with Super Gameboy and Gameboy Player. Those didn't stop people from buying GBs and GBAs. Of course, the 3DS is on somewhat more shaky footing than those were, so it may just be a timing issue.

Doesn't make sense to me that they would even think to do that, plus, does the Wii U even had the architecture to play 3D games? I know that it has been hinted at.
I don't think anyone's really suggesting that it would play the games in 3D.

Personally, I think the biggest reason why we won't be seeing one of these is Nintendo's (and everyone else's) big push to digital... And, in particular, Nintendo's methods of tying the game purchases to the system instead of an account. The digital download version of NSMB2, for example, can't plug in like a cartridge, and if they did some major 3DS firmware update to enable Nintendo Network IDs on the thing and tie all your purchases to accounts and such... it would kill their model of selling Virtual Console games to you separately on each system.

maybe to get around that they could make the device hook to the Wii U Game Pad, and like the GameCube GameBoy Player Have a Disc to do the Loading and Stuff

All good points, but with Nintendo's recent release's and announcements, do you really think they are up for taking a hit in sales? It's a bad business decision. While Nintendo are outshining both Sony and Microsoft in terms of game and console sales, Nintendo doesn't seem like the company to take a bullet for their fans. As long as Mario sells they really couldn't care less. Maybe your right though. With Super Smash Bro's coming on both the 3DS and Wii U, maybe that's a sign that they realise that people can't afford both, or that the Wii U really isn't all that desirable past the gimmick.

I wouldn't imagine a cart reader being all too expensive. All you would really need is an external cart reader, powered by the Wii U via USB. The information can be sent from the cart through the USB to the Wii U. All that would require is a patch, USB cable, a cart reader, and a 3DS library.

I think the most likely thing to happen would be the same thing Sony did with the PSP/PS3; remote play. Use the 3DS to power the game and use it as a controller, while watching your TV screen to play the game. If they really wanted to, they could release a Wii U tablet with a DS/3DS cart reader and play the game like that.

Though as I said, while a cool idea and something I would want, I can't imagine it happening.

With the adapter, you would need the 3DS hardware in order to run the games properly, the alternate solution is emulation, but that can cause some incompatibilities, look at the Xbox 360's BC. The GBP contains all the GBA hardware.

I think some sort of Wuu tablet with a 3DS reader, or even a adapter for the 3DS to transfer video from it to the Wuu would be other alternates that would work.

I think SSB on both systems is for the fans, I have wanted a portable SSB and I bet a lot of others do to, If the "Wii U really isn't all that desirable past the gimmick." that would give more reason to make it Wuu exclusive. SSBM sold NGCs and SSBB sold Wiis.

I think the biggest problem with the Wuu is lack of games. Some are coming out, but there is not that many titles on it now.

you should also Remember alot of the Price on the 3DS is the 3D screen and Touch screen, and they would be able to cut alot of the features like internal wifi cause the Wii U already has it, It would not be as Expensive as you May think just look at how much the Gameboy player was! if I remember right it was 50 US Dollars while the GBA was 100 at the Time and that was not cutting stuff like 3D, all you would need is the basic hardware and a disc to run it through the Wii if im Correct XD
