Best Way to Experience Ocarina of Time for a First Playthrough

JDavis:
These are all good options.

The 3DS version will obviously be the prettiest, and if you go that route I recommend getting a 3DS XL over a normal 3DS. It also has some tweaks that make some parts of the game (cough cough water temple) more workable. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the 3DS version.

I say go with the Gold Cart N64 version, the earliest version with no music or graphic changes.
That's the one I played.

I'm thinking of playing the rest of the Zelda's and want to start with Ocarina of Time.

I'm wondering what the best route would be for a first play through.

I have the following options available to me right now:

1. - Play original cart on an N64

2. - Play on Wii with Gamecube Zelda Collection - I have a Wavebird wireless controller as well

3. - Install the VC version on my Wii

Other option would be to go buy a 3DS XL (I've wanted one for a while now) and get a copy of the remake

Just want to know what others who may have played multiple versions think the pros and cons of each are.

You could go completely left wing, get a load of your friends and role play!

It depends on what you want dude. Do you want to play the through the original game, the way it was intended, Do you want to play through other mediums that have better controller, or do you want something a little different?

If original game > N64.

If "gief better controlz please" > Gamecube or Wii VC.

If remake > Master Quest or 3D version.

I suppose the real question is, which way do you want to play?

EDIT: Just read the title properly. This is your first play through? N64 version by all means. Do it!

Yeah first play through.

I play Link to the Past annually and figured I should try the other games out.

I love the idea of playing the original game on original hardware, however, I can't stand the N64 controller so if the GC version is the same game with but I can play with a Wavebird and in better resolution on my big TV then I may go that route.

Are there any significant content changes in the GC port?

Nope.
No significant... if any, apart minor cosmetic.
