No it is not.

But If I understood correctly nearly all PS1, PS2 and PS3 games are or will eventually be playable from cloud server.
Hopefully with monthly fee allowing unlimited access.

I expect we'll have to buy the game a second time to have it on our profile - similar to what Steam offers.

Why would you pay $400 for a PS1?

You missed the point of my comment completely :P As much as I like collecting consoles ... I don't see the point of having a PS1, PS2, PS3 and  PS4 all wired up in my game room to play whenever wished. I want to stay updated and buy a PS4 to play new released games, don't get me wrong, it's just annoying to see new generation models not supporting their predecessors. I didn't even mention Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One either ...

For now, my first PS3 Model CECHE01 does the job - for most games.

Making the PS4 backwards compatible with previous versions would only increase the cost of the system. Even at $400 Sony is losing money with each unit sold.

If you're going to let the lack of backwards compatibility prevent you from playing next gen games, good luck to you.

How certain are you with that statement? PS3 and PS4 hardware are only improvements, barely any changes.
